I'm sure it's very common. It's human nature to seek intimate affection. Especially by painfully lonely people in an over-sexualized society like ours. I know I've hugged mine almost every night unless I'm super tired.

I only have one pillow, and I don't hug it. My wife has two pillows, so I guess she's doing a three-way every night.
