You would be surprised at the level of self esteem that differently abled people have. They rely on practically know one and would go miles ahead of their available senses to live normal life.
I know some such people, great friends of mine. One of them is head of customer service at a darkness themed restaurant in Hyderabad. He also gives seminars to corporate people regarding collective thinking and firm decisive behaviour.
I won't call him cripple. He lives on his own. In a shared accommodation. Works, earns, even loves a lady at work. He introduced me to her, and she was no less charming than him!
The way to address is not just for the addressed, but also the addressee. Calling cripple, already raises the nose at the person. You can assess where the interaction may go from there.
Depends, I was handicapped for a while and called myself a cripple ( I also used the " they said I could be anything so I became a cripple line all the time) but that's all because I thought it was funny and I enjoy self-deprecating humor, everyone else since I said I was being too harsh on myself, so it depends on the person's humor I think
I don't like the word "cripple", "hadicapped" nor "disabled" used to describe a person who is physically or mentally impaired. Just as much as I don't like the word "Chink" to describe me. I much prefer saying "a person with cerebral palsay" in comparison to "a cripple". As I prefer someone who doesn't know my race to define me "Asian" rather than call me "Chink".
It's not only something that I practise in saying due to my profession as a nurse. It's something that I practise in saying out of respect.
Nah.
I qualify as disabled and I call myself a cripple all the time and my friends use it to describe me too. It's only derogatory if you're really trying to make it upset someone and honestly most words can be used in a derogatory manner if you're trying hard enough. It's far more about intent than the actual words used I'd think.
I am a Supervisor For Mentally Challenged Adults. Some, hun, Physically Too And/Or Both.

I was born with a mess up left leg when i point it out you can see my hip knee and foot are naturally twisted outward and i have a heart murmur and learning disabilities and brain damage from many almost fatal accidents so no i wouldn't say it would offend me
If I'm right then a cripple is someone is injured but still able to get around with crutches
Where as handicap is for amputees who are unable with crutches and need use of wheelchair etc
So the 2 don't compare?
If it is offensive to that person then apparently, yes. Other than that, there is no such thing as offensive.
Yes. It's a derogatory term.
Same as calling a person with down or other mental handicaps a retard. Retard is also a derogatory term.
I've never thought about it because no one has ever sad anything about to me, so I wouldn't think so. But if it is, then I'll stop.
Depends on context, just like everything else. I can use 'offensive' terms without any malice just as I can use 'politically correct' terms with a bad connotation.
It's just funny honestly. No one says it to be offensive. It's such a weird word, why would they use that to be offensive?
What makes one word derogatory and another synonymous word not, is entirely a human artificial creation.
Lmao at people getting offended. Cripple is hardly a derogatory term.
Unless they are your best friend and appreciate that kind of humor, yes, it’s offensive.
A lot of people are saying if it's descriptive, I believe the description is *Crippled*
Dude, my name. Lol, if it's all jokes, we don't give a shit.
Heck, even if it was being used descriptively, I'd think it's weird but wouldn't care.
Depends on the handicapped person and how well you know them
It depends on how well you know the person. It could definitely be construed as offensive to some people though
No. I think it's the truth and not derogatory. I also don't like other euphemisms. We're all so svared off the truth that we try to bury it in meaningless words.
How about we ask people who are handicapped? Their opinions are the ones that matter here. No vote.
I've never heard it used offensively, its usually descriptive.
It depends on how close you are with the person random strangers of course but if there's a friendship involved especially if it's males guys tend to take jokes better
I'm not very politically correct. It's fine for me. I'm not crippled mind you.
Some find offensive then you have that small guy who did the mike wazowski meme who don't mind it
