Here's the definitions: Live in shame = You've to live in shame. Your family, friends, other you knows and strangers may look down upon you and think you're a shame. In addition you've to live a lifestyle or in a culture you sees as both shameful and humiliating. Something which isn't humiliating for someone else can be it for you, so it's your definition that count here.
Die in honor = You've to die or being killed. There's many who looks up to you and you can feel good/proud about yourself, what you did etc. It's what you did that makes it honorably, not necessary the death itself. Die in honor don't necessary mean a decent death where it's painless. It can be an execution or a murder. Example: Fighting for democracy in a totalitarian regime, but getting executed for that. #ShameVsHonor#Death#WouldYouRather

Would you rather live in shame or die in honor? Why?
Live in shame. There's no universal rule as to what is honorable. An action that is honorable one place is disgraceful somewhere else. You're really asking "would you rather die to accomodate the perspectives of other people , or live is an outcast to abide by your own nature?
If you value someone else's view of Honor enough to die for it, I see no reason why you should not just kill yourself whenever someone says to.
As far as my own personal actions go, I am willing to die for my own sense of Honor, or to live to put the rest of society to shame.
Die in honor. Why? Because as someone who follows a code of honor, that is the only option. Living while failing to live up to the standard I've set for myself would be not living at all. I don't care whether people would look up or down upon me, that simply doesn't matter. If my honor demands, I obey. If that leads to my death, then so be it. That isn't anything to be feared.
I think people kind of lie a bit here. We like to claim that we want to die with honor. I think about what would it be like if I were a slave back in 1841. Would I die with honor? Or would I do whatever it took to stay alive, from keep getting whipped and beaten? Even if my mother was being raped, my sisters or if family members were being sold off.
I want to believe that I would just fight until I was finally killed.
Honor and pride only hurt lol. They’re also subjective as well. If I were to live in shame, what exactly is it that people look down upon me for? Did I kill someone? Abuse an animal? What exactly? Even though I advocate for honor, bravery, and glory in certain situations, I understand that sometimes people can get warped into believing and doing stupid things because of these ideas or adherence to their sense of honor.
Obviously I would die in honor because everyone else in my family agrees I should learn to think critically among other things, but my mother looks upon me in shame of every time I do so, and I would hope to have a better relationship with her when I am an adult and she can finally realize everything I've been doing is right. So yea. I would want to die in honor.
Die in honour. Always. I'd fight for what I believe is right and lead by example. That doesn't mean I'd cross any lines in needlessly hurting innocent people however (some people get this confused).
@jacquesvol that's true, obviously it'd be avoided as much as possible but if it's unavoidable by doing what you believe to be right then I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing, it's inspiring to others.
Because I'd be fucking dead lol. Life sucks front to back. If people will respect me after I'm gone, that's just a bonus. No one ever respected me when I was alive.
Out of interest, in a hypothetical situation where you would be a soldier protecting something you held dear, friends and family for example who were getting evacuated to a safe place and the longer you fought on, the more people you cared about would get evacuated. But if you retreated or surrendered, all the people who you cared about would die or at best be enslaved and oppressed. Would you fight to the death then, which is the "honorable" option, or would you surrender or run away once death started to look sure, which would be the "shameful" option? I'm curious.
@Alessus Unless all the people "I care about" are handless and blind, they should be fighting too. I'm sure as hell not sacrificing my life for some shameless selfish pricks who are not willing to fight for their own.
@Kuraj so you'd expect your grandparents, if they were alive to fight? Your mother and sisters and girlfriend or wife if you had one? Children too? Certainly very egalitarian of you.
@Kuraj, grandparents and parents are often too old to fight, and elderly people aren't as physically strong or fit as younger people. Children are too young to fight and aren't mentally mature enough to do so. In addition they're also often too small and not strong enough to do so. So he has a good point!
