Would you prefer dying with honor, or living with shame?

For example, suppose you were about to get executed, and everyone was watching.

The executioner offers to spare you and let you go, but you'll have to get down on your knees, kiss his feet, and bark loudly like a dog while he's spitting on you and doing many humiliating things to you, again, while everyone is watching.

Would you accept the offer and live the rest of your life in shame? Or deny it, accept death, and die with honor?

Why are we associating reason to live with shame or honor? My point of view is if you prefer death than shame, an obviously lower hazard event, you are in most cases being egoistic, really egoistic, blindly egoistic, unless choosing to die would bring good, it is a result of arrogance. I do not see good to be proud in such a way or in such circumstances.

The obvious answer is to get rid of your ego and do what it takes to survive, you won't be living in shame forever, people will forget, and with you still alive you can do other honourable things to make up for it
