What do you think about someone naming their child Lucifer? Is it right to make it illegal?

There are no rules where I live, but if we had a list, I'd include Lucifer as a name parents couldn't give children.
I'd have no issue however with someone changing their own name to Lucifer.
This is sort of similar to the fact that I believe people should be able to cover their own face in tattoos if desired, but probably not be allowed to do it to their children.
you didn't exaplain why though
While you may not be religious, in many places, a majority of the child's peers and classmates and teachers will be. Not everyone is as openminded as you, and the child would likely be treated differently or bullied because of it.
Whether or not the name is aesthetically pleasing doesn't matter. It doesn't offend you because you don't believe in the devil (nor do I) but also, I think, because you assume the parents are not actually theistic Satanists. So you're projecting a 'neutral' view on them.
It's similar to why IF I were going to interfere as a state I would also not allow names like "hitler' or naming a child after Charles manson or similar.
That said, i'm not sure where I stand on the state intervening in baby names at all.
then I could also name my kid 007, Ferrari and many more. Bullies can bully you for whatever they find too.
I like how Lucifer is portrayed in the TV show. He isn't evil himself, he's just the punisher of evil, so the name Lucifer doesn't have any negative association for me. Im also not religious so there's that aspect too.

I don't think it's fair for parents to give their kids a burdensome name like that.
If they like it, why not Lucien, instead? It doesn't come with a load of negatives attached.
I mean names are just names. I don’t know why the US has a restriction of no other characters than just the English letters. Like what if I wanted to name a kid pi with the pi letter?
Terrible thing to do to a child, unless he's the anti-Christ.
None of my business what people name their children, so I don't think it should be illegal.
It's fine, although it's already illegal in Switzerland and New Zealand
Sounds like a pretty cool name to me. Also, where do you think the name Lucy comes from?
not great first school
