both are 19
Are 18-19-year-olds adults or children?
both are 19
Legally they are adults, and mentally, well, no, they are not children. Yes, they are immature because their brain is still in development, but mature enough to be an adult.
Adults in the eyes of the law
Children in the eyes of elders
Anything above 18 is adult. When I was 19 I was pregnant with my second child and had a house and a car. If someone would have called me a child I would have been pissed 😡
Second child? Wow. I think it is too young to have child at that age but it is your business in the end. π
Woww. You really like kids!. Are you religious? I am just shooked and impredsed that a young woman is married and have childreen at that age.. π π
Technically they are adults except for alcohol.
The true test is in how they act.
Do they act like children, or adults?
true ππ

I consider them to be Newly Escaped Mental Patients.
They've been institutionalized for so long they just want to misbehave.
Usually lasting about 3-6 years, occasionally longer.
Then you start to really "feel" like an adult.
They are adults. but they are what you call YOUNG adults. They are capable of reproducing (usually) and supposed to be able to care for themselves. BUT it takes time also and life experience to be able to fully function well in life and in society to where you aren't naive enough to be taken advantaged of by both men AND women alike! But especially the opposite sex because you are going to be doing a lot of dating and trying to find your mate at this stage in your life, especially if you are a normal human being! They can vote and drink and order porn and by the lotto. ... I did all that when I turned 18! It was fun but like I got bored of it after a while. I didn't do the porn thing nor the drinking thing actually till I was 21 because in CA it's 21 not 18. I think they increased the age in the late 90s. Now a days, I think it is also 21 to smoke in many states! Oh and I almost forgot about Gamling. You (or you could in the past) gamble at 18 and also enter into legal contracts at that age as well as have a credit card and bank account! ... But the weird thing is, the minimum age to rent a car in my state is 25! Such weird laws lol!

I'm 18, anyone who's been on here for a while and knows me, pretty much knows I'm honest about that. This is my sisters old account which we made together.
That being said, I personally think they're adults. I say that because if we are asked to behave as such and given those rights. If I can fight for this country and sign my name on documents. Or live in my own and etc. I'm an adult. If I can be charged as an adult for prison sentences or screw anyone I want (18+). Then that's what I am. Whether you behave like a child or not depends on the individual. I think 18 is a good legal age for adulthood.
They are still teenagers because they still don't know how the world works and not fully financially responsible for themselves. Because they're still living under their parents roof. The definition of being an adult is a grown individual that is financially responsible for their own responsibilities and that includes place of dwelling. So in layman terms, if you're not paying your own rent, and that does not mean paying for a room in your parents house but your own bills and that does not mean just your cell phone bill. If your parents are still buying your clothes and paying for your transportation and a roof over your own head, you are a young adult but, not responsible for yourself that will make you still a child. you want to prove to your parents in the world that you are an adult pay your own way and get out of your parents pockets. That is a real adult.
Adults in training. They are in a catch 22. They are expected to take on adult roles sometimes without the knowledge but when they actually in an adult manner they are told they don't know what they are doing or they aren't treated with equal respect.
It is hard for young adults to be taken seriously sometimes even when they are acting in a responsible way. It is, also, up to older adults to mentor instead of tear down but, also, tell them when they are going to hit a bump in the road if they don't change what they are doing. It isn't the time for sugar coating.
is 21 year old man or woman child?
An adult but at that age they might need some help. It just takes a bit of time to get some life skills to figure out how to do things. As adults just when we think we know things middle age and old age hits and we have to start learning how to do things again or do them differently.
In the past you would consider 18-19 years adult but because we have higher life expectancy the range for an adult is higher. In the past as soon as you hit 14 you were regarded an adult that was when people died around 60? Today the oldest are 100+ years because of this there's no definite answer but our generation adulthood realistically starts at about 25? This is from someone still in his teens by this estimate who's entering adulthood im much older but only starting to do the things people who were 18 and regarded as adults. In todays world from my experience tells me that everything adults did in the past has been shifted to an older age.
90% of my friends who normally would have moved out at 18 are still with their parents at 25.
Some act like children, but that goes for people in their 30's too. Generally I'd say adults, or at least that they should be.
very good comment
Adulthood is more than a number and it doesn't come overnight by turning 18. To me a person is considered an adult based on their maturity and their ability to take on responsibilities and decisions.
And one thing is sure. Age doesn't define maturity.
I put they are children. To me, It depends on what your parents have to say about that. After all, they are the ones who made you, brought you into this world and let you live under their roof. Though, there is also a time when they have to let you go, there is a time when they'll want to let you go because they can't support you their whole lives.
They never looked fully mature to me, even when I was younger than that. Especially boys, who mature later.
I consider a person to be physically mature around the age 20-25, with mental maturity it's a whole different story. I know 15 year olds who are wiser than some 40 year olds.
If I compare the current crop to myself at that age I'd say they are children, at that age I'd already been working for three years with Tech College time stacked on top and fully contributing to all the household bills, today they don't seem to be self starters (Failure to launch) unless they have been brought up that way and they all seem to be looking for the "Celebrity" short-cut instead of being willing to put in the hard work to attain what they want.
The age of consent here is 16 and at 16 your a young adult and need to find your feet. If 18 is the legal off consent where you are then the same applies they need too find their and be act like an adult.
I'm 20 and I defo don't feel like a full adult. I have my own place and car, but still, not a full adult 😂 I can't pay for my own life atm and rely on loans and my parents, I wouldn't have I'm an adult until I'm independent.
Depends on the context, do you mean running for presidency or deciding how late they can stay out? In both of these scenarios my answer would be different.
18 years old or older means they are legally adults.
Adults
- can have sex
- can smoke
- can live on their own
- can drive
- can join the military
- can watch porn
Children. It just means they are old enough to do certain things ie. Smoke, drive.
But they still lack life experience and in some cases maturity. I'm 25 and I still feel like a child. I don't think people hit true adulthood until at least 30.
Physically they are adults with the exception of the brain. The brain does not finalize the development of the cortex- responsible for sound judgments and analysis- until about 25-26. Until then, they are still emotionally youth.
inbetweeners... plus it depends on country... many americans can't even drink til they are 21 but in some european states its legal to have sex at 14... i guess it has to be relative to some degree
Legally theyβre adults but you see men and women out here twice that age and still acting like children
