Outdated colorism is what it is. Some idiot in the 1700’s who happened to be a Christian said black cats were evil and the devil incarnated. And there were a whole bunch of other Christians who were dumb enough to believe him. So they’d went around grabbing black cats off the streets to burn at festivals to “punish for the evil deeds”.

Somehow a severely watered down version of this belief survived to the present and some people believe black cats are bad luck. They aren’t. They can be pretty adorable though.

Have you heard... the more dangerous a situation (such as crab fishing, for instance) the more superstitious the people in it tend to be? They like to try and feel some sort of control or order over their unpredictable conditions.

No. There are a couple black cats in my neighborhood that have crossed my path and even hang out in my yard sometimes. So far, so good. Lemme just knock of wood though so I don't jinx myself lol

Until recently black cats are actually good luck. Their black fur makes them excellent junters, especially at night. Wasn't until relatively recently that black cats became connected with witches, thus becoming bad luck instead. We should change it back, black cats deserve love too.

My mom has always believed in that type of stuff and she still does

However now when a black cat crosses she jus thg keeps on going and i haven't asked her why the black cats don't scare her anymore

The only thing that will happen if a black cat crossed my path is that I'd try to pet it and maybe give it something to eat if I have anything.

That superstition is toxic mean cause it causes Black cats to be ignored in shelters and pet stores. Also it seems to encourage people to hurt stray black cats for no reasons.

Well for the old superstition of black cats bringing bad luck it depends on your cultural background.

In some areas of the UK & Europe as example white cats are actually the bad witches companions and friends of the devil. Not black cats.

This is actually a real problem as black cats have a lower adoption rate and are routinely put to death for it. Also people tend to not like them because they don't show up as easily in their photos. It's stupid.
