When I was young, there were dairies all over the place. We would walk down to watch the cows being milked, although most of that was done by machine by then. Still, I've seen how to milk cows by hand. I've never done it, though.
I'm sure that a tiny percentage of Americans have milked a cow. And although everyone knows what a cow is, I suspect that many would be surprised to find out how milk is obtained.
It reminds me of how people buy packaged meat from the grocery store, but are horrified by the thought of someone hunting animals or harvesting and butchering animals they raise themselves.
We live in a society were people are increasingly divorced from nature. It's tragic.

There aren't many dairy farms in my state so you wouldn't have many opportunities for it. As my state is a agriculture state for grain and seed and most cows here are raised to be butchered not milked.
That being said yes I do know where milk comes from, I've been to a dairy farm and I've seen it done by hand. I also know that only females are able to produce milk.
I've just never bothered to try it. Which is kind of ironic because my family has a history of working on dairy farms and even owned one at one point ( before my time )
It depends on where you grow up I guess, I don’t know how to milk a cow, I know the mechanics sure but no clue. Plus I’m sure there are plenty of people who think milk comes from factories 😂
Australians don't know how to milk cows either (unless, of course, they're dairy farmers). It isn't taught in schools, and I wouldn't have a clue how to do it because I've never done it.

My aunt had a dairy farm and I'd work there every summer, learned how to milk, shoveling manure, just farm work.
But yes, lots of Americans have no farm skills nor knowledge whatsoever. And if the power goes out thousands will die in a week because we don't prepare ourselves well as a whole.
There are some who would be fine but the majority are more stupid than sheep. Most Americans have never seen a cow in person let alone have a clue how to milk one. Hand milking isn't actually done here commercially. Only on small family farms where the milk is used for personal consumption not sold. I would say 99.999% of Americans have never met someone who has ever milked a cow. I actually have milked cows but then I grew up in a rural area.
Looking at the picture you included, I find it interesting that to teach your children how to milk a cow, you have a woman lean over the bucket and the kids milk her.
Puns... all the puns... YES!
Milk these puns for all their worth.@purplepoppy Compared to British & Europeans Americans are painfully undereducated even ignorant. Half of them don't even know their own former presidents and this is taught in school.
I know how to milk but only because I grew up on a farm.
In America, mostly machines milk cows. Most Americans may never see a cow in person during their life. There are no Americans who don't know where milk comes from, however factory farms are popular in America, so they're right that milk does come from a factory in most cases.
Isn't it a lot like pulling on a dick to get more cum out?
I learned how to milk a cow by hand and machine when I was young. How to make butter, too. But I grew up on a farm.
I milked cows in elementary school, as we had a field trip to a farm and got to ride horses too. We learned quite a bit!
Half this country doesn’t know what a cow is, or which sex of cow gives milk, which end the milk comes out of, but they can program your smart phone for you… they all gonna die when the SHTF and I’m going to laugh, there won’t be running water, electricity, working toilets, food, it’s going to be fun watching the little socialist bastards perish.
As a PA girl born and raised I know how to milk a cow!
I learned from Cappadonna. Also taught me what a super low-budget music video should look like. “Park Hill Projects, chick-a-POW!!!”
https://www.youtube.com/embed/W1aNHE1rSCsYou didn't include the concept of city life in your question.
Citizens don't even know how a cow is made if not from TV or videos on the internet. Most never touched one, let alone milked one.I'm not going to ask some British girl for a hand job just because she knows how to milk a cow, if that's what you think.
That's an udderly ridiculous question, Poppy.
Cut the bull now please. Its cheesing me off...
This question became a potential "Dear Dairy" moment.Yep. A large majority of us never learned anything involving farming or even basic survival skills in school, and some of us, didn't learn any survival skills at all.
I was not taught this.
It’s neither part of the U. S. or Philippine mandatory-schooling curriculum, so I never learned it.I'm not American and it's something I would never do. It makes sense to have such lessons if you live in an area with a high density of farmers.
My school failed to give me udder skills, Now my Dad worked on Farmer when he was young but he Milk cows, helped mother cows give birth, he has butchered chickens, etc
