2.9K opinions shared on Other topic. Age. LOL. Getting older is a funny thing.
When you're a kid, you can't wait to get older.
When you're in you late teens, you think you are the shit.
You are immortal, and you think you know everything. You think anyone over 30 is old.
In my late teens and 20s, I was in with the surf crowd. I surfed, skateboarded, played intense sports and Frizbee, did lead guitar and vocals in rock bands, went to hundreds of concerts, partied like a Viking, went on adventures and explored, backpacked, drove fast cars, constantly had a girlfriend, ...
30s:
In my 30s, I was making really good money and benefits. I started accumulating assets. I was working hard but also doing some super fun stuff.
When I was 37, I lived with one particular woman for over a year. That year with her was a peak experience of my entire life. The sex was indescribable, but she was a wonderful person so many other ways. I will always be grateful for that experience. She was a gift from the gods. I'll always love her and will never forget her.
40s:
I finally started dating my future wife when I was 40 and married her when I was 42. We had a great time and did some really fun things together for nine years until we moved from southern California to Northern California. Two years after that move, we found the home we have been living in ever since. Actually we bought 30 acres of bare land and put the house, well, sceptic system, grid-tied solar, small orchard (including citrus), raised beds and gardens.
My wife built a business in the nearby town. We became part of the community in that town, became fairly well known, and made lots of friends.
I celebrated my 50th birthday in that town with friends.
50? WTF? How did that happen? But I was having the time of my life.
Time continued to pass. My wife and I did fun things all the time. I started up a new band. We took cool vacations.
I retired from my job after 30 years at age 56 and started receive a pension. I got some other jobs to supplement our income and finally went on Social Security and officially retired at 62. I got Medicare at age 65. Social Security and Medicare rock. But I can't believe that I'm in the AARP demographic. And senior discounts? LOL
It's great being retired. It's what I worked for. But it's so weird not being young and bitchen and feeling immortal. I still remember every part of my life from the time I was a little kid. I'm still the 8, 11, 17, 25, 37, 42, 50 year old - optimistic, ambitious, energetic, seizing life.
Both my wife and I sometimes see someone and say "Look at that those old people." And then we realize that we are about the same age. LOL
Anyway, the progression of time is interesting. It's impossible to imagine until you experience it. I know that I never imagined getting old.
My wife and I have been happily married for almost 25 years now. 25 years? That's insane! How did that happen? But we LOVE the life we have built for ourselves and are having fun. We're looking forward to more fun and adventure.24 Reply- +1 y

Another one is that you're only human, you're not perfect, you make mistakes. Even people you look up to make mistakes.
Another one bit sad is that as you grow older, your friends will, just like me, die eventually. I lost a childhood friend back in highschool, gives me that slap in the face, nothing lasts forever, so be grateful for the now00 Reply

Just be you, and let the right people appreciate you~

Things happen which you would have considered impossible.
An example is the horrendous flooding in Belgium and some neighboring countries of last week. I've been in a are with less rain but the East has been devastated.

I suspected it during the 2016 primary, than confirmed it during the 2020 primary when I participated in 3 polls. The one poll I never got to finish, pollster hung up the second I mentioned my candidate, while the other 2 polls, the pollsters got defensive gave a bunch of BS that I wasn't allowed choose the my candidate, I had to choose from their list of "approved" candidates.

Opinion Owner+1 yYes, we need to be reminded that early on in our teens or childhood, that life isn't fair, I feel guys need to be told that more than girls do, I've heard people say that men are meant to deal with the harshness or unfairness of life more than women are
Opinion Owner+1 yYa, I've read plenty of articles that led me to believe this
Opinion Owner+1 yProbably because of the burden of courtship or starting a relationship always falls on the guy's shoulders
here is reality check. i am 65 and finally realized that being alone in life as i am now is a far safer way to live ones life is alone. It is the reality that the human race from the first bite of the apple has man has not changed at all and when i say Man this includes women. We are still doing the most evil things we have always done to each other even up to the current time.

But you know, that IS the natural order. Ask any parent who had to bury a child, that is likely worse.
Opinion Owner+1 yThey're both horrible but at least the child doesn't get to grow up to realize harsh reality, it's just all a mess either way
