Nope. I dont. If you’re the calm, Im the storm. Cause im storming tf outta there 🤣 I don't know why im made this way lol. But i wanna liiiive 😂 I know in movies, the ones who dont think usually dont live in the end, but hey, I got a nice headstart didn't I… Besides, based off past experiences, I always acted first without thinking. Its just a reflex I guess. And mind you, this is only if somethings trying to attack me. In any other setting, I’d surely think first because I’m more of a logical than emotional thinker

There is a quote from a survivor of the Hindenburg that is roughly "There comes a time, in your life, where you must act. What you choose to do might cause your death but failure to act insures it."

He jumped form the wreckage and ran. Where he landed and about 75% of the area around it was hit by burning wreckage. Almost any direction he would have ran would have been death. But so was standing still.

I think how I behave depends largely on the situation. I have had police draw guns on me 4 different times. That's a think situation, they aren't acting impulsively so you pay attention to everything they say and comply with them.

Some thoughts are so quick that it seems like pure reflex. Traffic on the freeway locking up so slam on breaks but car behind me was really close so ease off the breaks and feather them to make sure I'm not rear-ended and that I don't rear-end the car in front of me, car in front of me was my wife. Synapse fire faster when you're facing danger. This helps reaction time and has a better chance of burning the events into your memory in minute detail. Which means if you survive you can handle the same event better next time.

I have learned that I react, without conscious thought, when someone else life is in danger, this has been pulling kids out of pools on 5 occasions, one kid was twice, one we had just entered the pool area and a four year old ran and jumped in before we got her water wings on, I dropped everything and jumped in without thinking. And once a friend of mine was choking on apiece of chicken. I moved form my side of the table got behind her and Heimlich maneuver. She spit the chicken across the table and said thank you, our moms had talked through almost the whole thing. They both looked shocked when she spit the chicken.

As scary as those events were, I like knowing that when needed I hit autopilot to help.

For me reflexive reaction happens before my mind registers the extent of danger but that extent means nothing in many scenarios. Living in shameful regret is like dying a slow lifelong torturous death rather than losing life with honor in an action.
A couple examples of my experience in this case...
Once while at a reception party I noticed 5 guys beating the crap out of one guy on the ground. My ass sprang before I had a chance to put any thought to it as I took off running and took #1 out with my elbow to his neck, turned and took out #2 with a solid blow to the nose. The other 3 started dancing around like boxers talking shit but none wanted to approach first. I had a lot of questions rattling around in my head as well if I was nuts in engaging 5 thugs.
So much to my perplexed surprise, the guy on the ground sprang to his feet shoving me back and cussing me.
Huh? I just saved your ass dude.
I should have blasted him one as he announced he was getting jumped into the gang lol. But I'm not goin home to see the news saying a man lost his life and me seeing it and doing nothing.
I as well leaped without delay to intercept a pitbull attack to save my own dog. Even after it was over and I had a moment to think... yeah, I'd do it again over living with myself knowing I stood and watched him die and did nothing in fear for myself.
I don't regret none of my reactions to such scenarios... My honor and dignity I retain.

Based off of past experiences, I usually tried to think a little bit before I acted if I had the time to, and consider the best course of action.

However, on a time crunch, I made a decision and tried to just roll with the punches as it went. Freezing up in fear is the last thing that you'd want. The most brilliant advice I've ever been told for these kinds of situations is this: "With your back against the cliff, make a choice. Either face it head on and tackle the problem, or jump off that edge and grow your wings on the way down."

Now, this is horrible advice when taken at face value, but let me explain:
"Face it head on and tackle the problem." The problem might be something that seems quite daunting to take on, seeming big and bad and all that, but sometimes all you just need is a bit of confidence and tenacity to do it. Tackle it head on and fight through it.

"Jump off that edge and grow your wings on the way down." This one didn't make sense initially at first, but it mostly meant that you're gonna have to take a major risk and just hoping it succeeds. You're gonna have to just do it and worry about consequences later. Sometimes this can mean retreating from a problem and coming up with a better plan. Other times this can mean you take the first step and the rest will come afterward naturally. Maybe it's a metaphor for growing your wings (aka growing as a person or asking for help) and then taking a high ground (getting into a better position to take care of the problem). Who knows? It has fitted into a lot of problems for me, and it has worked many times before.

It's best to not fall into too rigid of a plan to the point that if you fail to do it, you don't have another avenue, but also to make sure that you have at least some contingencies to soften any blows that come, metaphorically or even literally.

I guess it would depend on how imminent the danger was. I would most definitely not just react. That being said I've spent time I'm the millitary so my situational awareness is at a higher level than most. One of the things that can be a blessing and a curse. On one hand im not looking for trouble and rather leave and avoid any dangerous threat from another person. I'm not an imposing guy so unfortunately I have that easy target look about me I guess. I can usually sense when I'm being sized up or targeted. I'm not a big guy. I'm not lifting weights 5 times a week. I'm a cardio marathon kind of guy that enjoys circuit and high intensity training. So I'm when the line set up in my head is crossed I'm going first I'm going fast and as viciously as possible then I'm getting out of danger. For me it's what's necessary because I know if I wait to let them grab me or hit me first that could be it. Not fun getting snatched up and dumped on your head or sucker punched. The reason why this is a curse is because to hard for some people to understand it. A lot of these guys are just trying to test themselves. They fight to elevate thier status and show toughness. I get it I'm trying to survive and get away and unfortunately it gets ugly and muddy

Not in the traditional sense.
So people always say like "fight or flight".
Well... yes but also no. There's actually "fight or flight or freeze".
I'm the freeze kind of person. I will absolutely just clam up 100% and not fucking make a decision until I absolutely have to and someone pushes me right off the diving board. I'm like this in every facet of my life and always have been: Gave me a deadline for an assignment due next month? Excellent, I'll likely end up starting 2-3 days before that date.
Work is coming up with a big thing that needs to get done? Great, I'm probably gonna tackle that at the literal last second.

The only positive thing I can say here to this method is that I do my absolute best work when under an extreme amount of pressure and despite leaving everything til the absolute last second before starting I typically don't sleep for 3 days when doing that thing and get an absolute fuckton of stuff done in an absurd amount of time and end up with one of the best projects out of the entire group as a result.

At times I have, but in others I froze. There are a few instances in which I very weirdly became very calm and focused, got my shit together in that moment, and was able to handle it, while internally freaking out (if that makes sense). I knew I couldn't totally freak out or I'd really be screwed, so I was able to be logical and rational enough in that moment to do what needed to be done, but was panicking on the inside at the same time. In other instances, I just froze in terror. I really hope I can learn to not do that, as that is the worst thing you can do in a dangerous situation.

Growing up in the middle east was not easy. I was born under Iraq-Iran war, grew up with Iraq invading kuwait and then the United states war against Iraq in the 90's and the last war in 2003. I grew up surounded by danger! The danger of war and the danger of a war aftermath plus being a christian orthodox in a muslim country was not as people think. With age i have learned to think before i act to get out of whatever the situation was and many times it could have gone real bad (get killed) and very few times it went bad (still survived). Now! I live in a peaceful Sweden (there is crimes and gangs) but it's easy to ignore. Just running was never the answer.

It depends on the danger. Before I lost my leg I'd weigh the options before acting.

A few years ago a guy put a gun in my face. So I took it away from him. Children shouldn't be playing with guns if they can't use them.

When I was about 23 a teenager with anger management issues tried to take my head out with a baseball bat. I disarmed him too..

I don't like violence but I've never lost a fight. Being capable of defending myself - even as an amputee - and enjoying it are not the same

I carry a baton or an umbrella with a short-sword in the handle most times I go out. It's rare these days for me to be unarmed. My wife and son are always on my left so my right arm can swing effectively.

But getting older has slowed me down. I doubt I'd try taking a gun away without getting shot these days

I’m pretty good at staying calm when facing danger and maybe this is something I learned from riding motorcycles or maybe it’s just something I was born with but I’m able to stay calm figure out a situation fast and react fast and I’m deliberate in my actions. Never try and run from a dog as soon as you do you make the dog go into attack mode 9 times out of 10 you can yell “hey” or whatever loud and with a forceful tone and even step towards the dog and stomp your foot once hard like your mad while you yell at the dog and push your chest out like you’re the baddest bitch on the planet and the dog will stop and back down. When I was a kid I ran from a Doberman and that dude was on me quick trying to bite me I turned around and kicked that dog as hard as I could and yelled fuck you I caught him right upside his head and he turn around and ran home crying I was little and that dog was big but once I got dominant that dog didn’t want no part of me

I still multitask, but it's a 80-20 between finding the best solution and starting to do so.

Like yesterday the fire alarm went off, so I grab my phone, passport, keys, wallet, health insurance card/credit card, put on some slippers, a jacket and a face mask.
I have all those lying together, for these kind of situations, so it took roughly 30 seconds to a minute, but I make sure I have everything I could possibly need before I get to the emergency exit.
I don't mindlessly run off, I don't stand there paralyzed, I just look for the optimal outcome.

Usually if I have time to act then I’ll weigh out my options such as what can I do to resolve this, how can I back away from it, etc.

If I don’t have time to think then I do everything possible to survive. So if it’s late at night and someone is about to try me, I’m not going to say a word other than a few punches and I’m sprinting off because one of their friends usually isn’t too far away.

This was a real world situation for me many years ago, in a store parking lot. I hear a woman screaming for help. See some guy attacking her, all I do is yell something like "Hey" I don't even remember exactly what I said and he comes at me with a knife and stabs and slashes me, I conceal carry and shoot him.

No real time to think, or run... and I really didn't know what was going on in the first place when I heard all the yelling. Really just thought some people were arguing or something.

One never knows what you'll do until put in a life or death situation, the thinking usually happens AFTER when your doubting yourself thinking there could of been a better way.

One thing I know is I'd be dead, if guns were outlawed.

Avoidance is best but if inaction leads to someone getting hurt I'd feel responsible so I jump in. It just happens.
