+1 yPeople referring to themselves or others as “king” or “queen.” Holy fuck, is that lame😂😂😂
OH! Almost forgot, maybe my #1 of all time: “vicious cycle.” Ever since Fat Bastard from Austin Powers 2 first said “I eat because I’m unhappy, and I’m unhappy because I eat. It’s a vicious cycle.”, back in, what was that, like 1999? Ever since then, I don’t think I have ever ONCE heard someone describe a negative behavioral pattern or a repetitive pattern of social ills and their consequences, literally anything of that nature is now described as a “vicious cycle.” Is EVERY negative cycle “vicious?” Like is there some other adjective we could maybe mix in for variety once in a while? I was in college when that started, and I think every sociology class I ever took would have some idiot go on an in-class diatribe, and they’d almost ALWAYS say something that would include “…. and it results in this VICIOUS cycle of poverty”, or something to that effect, and they’d say it in such a way that they seemed kind of pleased with themselves for such flowery language, but I’m sitting there like “we all saw The Spy Who Shagged Me, guy/lady, get yourself a fucking thesaurus, they’re like $12”, lmfao.00 Reply

+1 y"Looks don't matter" when someone says that, I sometimes feel like winding back my arm and putting my fist in their mouth but I'm not violent so I would never actually hit them but Everytime someone starts to say that stupid phrase it makes me mad inside because I know the truth is the opposite and it's a known fact that for long term people choose others with attractive faces and for short term/flings they choose attractive body types it's basic psychology but even still people will only choose someone with a certain level of attractiveness and people who don't meet that tend to die alone.

"Survival of the fittest". I've noticed that those who like to use this expression are generally psychopaths who think that it means they are obligated to act like callous pricks, but within the world of biology it just means that those organisms that are best adapted to their particular ecological niche will generally do better, and outperform, and thus breed more effectively, than other organisms, because they "fit" like a piece in a jigsaw puzzle.

+1 yPanties. I mean I like kids underwear (in large sizes) but if they’re adult bottoms, I call them shorts, briefs, underwear etc. It childish to me when someone says panties in reference to my adult under clothing. Go ahead and call your own whatever you want though. Lol. If you like the term for your stuff, that’s your choice.

00 Reply I really hate to make this about politics, but all those buzzwords that Trumpist trolls repeat ad nauseum are just so lame, I cringe every time I see them - stuff like "triggered", "snowflake", "libtard" and misuse of the word "patriot". I guess they wouldn't be so bad if they were used in moderation, but as it is, they just make me think the writer has a vocabulary of about 5 words - all of them learned from Trump - and I can't help but picture a fat guy in a baseball cap, with bad facial hair and sports sunglasses.
10 ReplyMisusing "literally."
Now I use it often, but I never misuse it.

Also, when people can't tell the difference between "woman" (singular) and "women" (plural). This sh*t drives me nuts!10 Reply- 4.1K opinions shared on Other topic.
+1 yPeople overuse the word "current", which, if you think about it, is a useless word.
Consider these two sentences that have exactly the same meaning:
John Smith is the current dean of the College of Business.
John Smith is the dean of the College of Business.02 Reply- +1 y
I second that. Wordiness is a waste of energy, both in writing and reading.
Beats me why some people abuse wordiness. - +1 y
@SomeoneUnknown027 In my regular job and as a hobby, I do a lot of copyediting. Most of that is deleting things, either by removing unnecessary words or rearranging text so that it flows more simply. The net result is easier-to-understand text for the reader.

+1 yThe F word, people that use it for all kinds of stuff, verbs, adjectives, nouns and so forth.
They sound stupid and I want nothing to do with them. I get it, if it is one time in a sentence or so, but it doesn't need to be every other word.10 Reply

It's a gambling term. It's when you invest a certain amount of resources (money, time, effort, credibility, reputation or whatever it may be) in one course of action, based on limited information, and then later have the opportunity to take a different course of action after having gained more information, but instead decide to continue on the same course and invest more in it.
Of course, if you actually cared, you would have just googled it...

+1 yWrong usages of "are", possesive pronouns, and apostrophes (e. g. they're instead of their, rose's instead of roses).
This drives me insane because: 1) they're easy to spot, 2) they look bad when read, and 3) why the heck didn't the posters/writers recheck their grammar?
Especially since I've only seen them in the past two years and they've only gotten worse.00 ReplyNothing can drive me nuts because I am usually very calm. But I think my this line, "Nothing more than anything" makes others annoyed.

Well yes, because they don't understand WHAT it means when they say it. 99% of people using it today think it's an adjective or an adverb that intensifies what you're trying to say! Hilarious.
