An odd question perhaps, but why do so many homes not have locks on their bathroom and toilet doors?

I live in the U. S. in an apartment buidling and the bathroom door has a lock on it, but the bedroom door doesn't. I've lived in apartments where there is no lock on either the bathroom or bedroom door. It's strange, it's not the first time I've thought about it, but I'm not sure what the reason would be.
My old house didn’t have locks on any of the doors. My new house has locks on the bedroom and bathroom doors.
When I was a child (about 5-ish, I think?) I actually managed to lock my dumb ass in the bathroom.
My parents had to call my grandfather to come free me from my own idiocy. I like to think that other houses don't have lockable bathrooms because of my dipshit younger self. 😂
If you live with somebody and you want to use the toilet, I'm expecting you want some privacy. If the other people you live with don't know what knocking means, you're going to learn to appreciate that lock.

Some offices have an ''open door policy''. Why not having the same for bathrooms?
Personally, I think that in an intact/healthy family locks aren't a requirement.
The ''office'' was a provocation, of course.
In ''my'' household of four we simply KNOW when someone is using the toilet; as a matter of mutual respect we then just don't open the door - which DOES have a lock accidentally; but it's not used.
Even IF a housemate would try to enter 'accidentally'- it would not be a drama, but something that can be treated with humour.
Well we dont have any locks on any of the doors except the front door and the back door to the garden
We do not have locks on the bathrooms because we did not want the kids to be locking themselves in there.
Why would you need them in a private home?
Don't you knock?
Anyway, if my sister or mother opened the bathroom door without knocking and saw me naked, so what? It's not like my dick is going to fall off because they happened to see it. I used to have the typical anxiety dream of being naked in public. Then one day I thought "so what?" I don't have those dreams anymore.
Maybe people would respect the fact that if the door was closed that someone is in there so they would wait until it’s open. But here in the USA, they all have locks since people just barge in without thinking
I have been in a lot of bathrooms where the door didn't have a lock on it and I live in the US.
@MysteriousDarkness Yeah I have been to some also, I either don’t use it or barricade the door somehow , I hate that because it’s usually a public bathroom
We have locks on our bedrooms and bathroom. We just never lock the bathroom door when we're taking showers
You AUS were a penile colony not so long ago. I'd imagine you'll find a lot of locked doors where they might otherwise not exist.
Well I believe it is how they are private bathrooms rather than public bathrooms.
Needed , my rocket would take off if you came in on me
Yeah, this must be an Aussie thing
Cost to general contractor
I've noticed most do.
*and some bedroom doors
To let the huntsman spiders in
