Can be from either side of course
Have you ever experienced sexism?
Can be from either side of course
Eh, technically yes. I don’t like to label it but yes, I have faced discrimination, stereotypes, and prejudice against me because of my sex/gender. I don’t really care if it’s said by certain people. My boyfriend and I joke around a lot about me being a shitty driver, the “dishwasher,” how I “belong in the kitchen,” how I am not fit to do certain things, etc. I find it funny because it’s all true for me, I enjoy doing “stereotypical woman things,” like cooking and cleaning, and I am in fact physically weaker, more sensitive, and less assertive than most men.
Sexism only bothers me when they are 100% dead serious, when I am seen as incompetent, or if they treat me as less than. I don’t get offended or bothered by a lot of things, but I will get frustrated when someone treats me like I don’t know anything, like I can’t do anything, or like I am useless - just because I’m a woman.
I have experienced it several times in my life. One unforgettable (and funny) time was when I was in high school taking a Construction/woodshop class. I had an amazing construction teacher who believed I could do more or better than all the other boys in the class, lol, and it was kinda true. I worked my ass off in that class. I wasn’t afraid of getting my hands and clothes dirty or doing things I have never done before. A new student joined and he immediately started picking on me for being a woman in construction class... He said I couldn’t do XYZ because I was too weak, too clumsy, too emotional, too stupid, etc. He said I needed a man to do it for me because it was a woman’s job or women weren’t fit for it.
I laughed it off because he didn’t even know me and he hadn’t even seen me do these things yet (because my teacher wanted me to be a Teachers assistant, helping him input grades and organize instead of doing projects). He said the same things every day for a week, until it was my turn to teach him how to do everything. He was too scared, too stupid, too weak, too lazy, too careless, and too clumsy to do all the things I showed him to do. I still laugh at it, it just ironic… 🤷🏻♀️
I enjoy doing the “stereotypical women’s stuff” too. But I get annoyed when someone says that I shouldn’t do something because I’m a woman. Or the guys who “mansplain” things that I probably know more about than they do.
Damn I didn't respond to you, mybad I didn't see it, Katherine notified me with her comment, sexism is stupid, it's also immature, the more time you give them, you start falling in the same category lol
Definitely. All the fricking time, especially from my stepdad. I got into a debate with him the other day because he told my brother not to play like a girl. He couldn’t for the life of him understand what’s wrong with that and kept insisting girls play worse.
But it’s not just that, just the only thing that came to the top of my head. I get excluded from guys stuff (that I’m interested in) because I’m a girl, I’ve been told to stick to getting my nails done, I’ve been told I can’t do something because I’m a girl, I’ve been spoken down to like I wouldn’t know something, I’ve been called a skank for wearing stuff, I’ve gotten in trouble for wearing a bra around the house (very covering), I’ve been catcalled, I’ve been followed, I’ve received hundreds of comments about my body, double standards, I’ve been sexualised from a young age, I’ve had my ex boyfriends friends treating me like a pretty play toy, I’ve been treated as incapable because I’m a girl, I’ve been called sooky and bossy (but when a guy does it it’s okay), I’ve been told guys only want to sleep with me, I’ve been called weak and unathletic (because I’m a girl and guys have a physical advantage), I’ve had guys purposely beating me and bullying me at things to make themselves feel good about their own ability, I’ve been asked if I’m on my period, I’ve been told I do things like a girl, I’ve had my opinions shut down, I ride horses and had guys ask what else I ride, I’ve had my business plans and goals shut down, I’ve been made out to be one of those dumb, pretty girls, guys are allowed to swear but I’m not, I’ve had to do more housework than my brother, I’ve been told that whoever is gonna feel sorry for my future husband because I’m a ‘tough bitch’, etc
Like thousands of things and it all adds up and pisses you the hell off
Gotdamn, you named the whole sexist dictionary, where do you live so I never move there, sounds like the community there is toxic, either ways you know who you are, I'm not gonna tell you to not care cause that is near impossible when people talk shit but you should definitely not let it make decisions for you, if you like, want and care about something, you go for it, only you know your limit, no one else
It’s literally 70% my stepdad but older Aussie guys can be pretty sexist to be fair 😂 sometimes the younger guys can be just as bad to be honest but some are great.
My brother in law is from Canada and I know someone from Spain, they are so much better than the guys here! They’re total gentlemen’s but are all for women empowerment and make a point that I can do anything I like. Guys from over seas are usually a lot less sexist.
I wouldn’t say I live in a bad country with bad guys, but my god can they be sexist and it pisses me off
Sounds like you've dealed with sexism at such a young age more than Americans have their whole lives, that's pretty terrible, I don't think there's a bright side to this but if we had to dig and salvage a bright side I'd say that maybe it will make you more thick skinned so when people talk shit it will bounce right off you
Well I’m still pretty sensitive but I’ve developed a lot thicker skin to brush off peoples bullshit.
I’ve had my skirt filmed up too. When we go camping, I usually walk around at night because it’s usually a lot safer and it’s fun. Last time I got followed around by two different groups of boys, and had to tell them to leave me alone because they were scaring me.
But yeah. I don’t know if it’s the culture here or just the people I know, but I’ve copped a fair bit of sexism
You confront stalkers, that's pretty bold, the best thing about someone thinking and talking down on you is that you'll always have the element of surprise, cause what they think doesn't make it reality, not only that, you sorta have the advantage as well because they have a weak spot thinking they have the advantage when in reality you do, I recommend you get some form of a self defense weapon or something cause that stalker shit sounds pretty concerning, your exes sound immature, which clearly you are too mature for, the world is pretty rotten smh
Well I don’t get literal stalkers. They were just following me around one night being idiots trying to convince me to give their friend my stuff and I told them to leave me alone. Their friend was like 2x their size and pretty much scooped them away from me as soon as I told them I was uncomfortable, so it wasn’t too bad. Just dickhead boys. I also had my 10yr old sister there and they were scaring her.
Yep I have a pretty tight business plan and the potential to go really far in my horse riding, so I’m gonna prove those suckers dead wrong haha. My stepdads giving me a go in the go kart (he races professionally) and he doesn’t have much faith in me, but I’m gonna prove him dead wrong too. I’m good at that stuff but guys always underestimate me haha
You’re not really allowed to carry weapons where I’m from and I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing that either. If I go somewhere unsafe (which is rare), I would just take my German shepherd. He’s black and massive as hell, so he’s more than enough and very protective.
I go walking in the trails while my mum runs and I get shit scared there. Apparently people have been held at knife point there and creeps camp out there.
I normally take my fluffy Groodle (poodle x) cause she needs the exercise but I changed my mind last time. I’m taking the shepherd from now on cause he’s scary.
One thing a guy has said to me once is that I suit small dogs, not big dogs so it’s good that I have small dogs cause I’m dainty. I have 2 German shepherds and I deal with horses, I think I’m okay with big animals 😂
Well it would be stupid to try and rob someone that has a big ass dog because big dogs are weapons, weapons you can pet, and if it's personal you can tell them your dog will eat their dog lol
Let's not even mention horses, they can kick you to heaven, but I'd still say the K9s are the best choice, you know, I feel like maybe you make people feel less of a man when they see you walking around with all this badass shit, it can explain why they treat you so poorly, they are like walking around with like a chihuahua and you pull up with some hellhound and to themselves they are like "damn I'm a pussy 😔" lol
That’s pretty funny 😂😂
The guy that said that has two Rottweilers. I was talking about my poodle when he made that small dog comment, but he was fully aware that I have big dogs so I don’t even know.
Don’t get me wrong, I love small dogs. They’re fairly easy to deal with and mine just laze around all day. But the shepherds definitely have their place protecting our property - and when you see the big male sprint towards the fence line, barking and growling, he sure looks like a hell hound haha.
I would honestly love to see someone to try and do something one day when I have him with me, because they would be done for haha.
Horses are pretty useless, they would just spook and run off. Unless you got lucky somehow and the horse kicked or reared up on the person. But when a horse wants to fight (usually other horses), it’s brutal.
But those sort of dogs come way in handy. I was walking my mums friends dog one day. He was a bull Arab x staffy. He was big and muscly, pretty intimidating.
Anyway I was in the bush (woods) and there was this real creepy guy. He walks towards me grinning, and I kinda stopped, backed up and made the dog sit. I held on real tight to him and tried to make it seem like he was little out of control. It helped cause the dog got excited and was lunging up.
This dude looked straight from me (grinning, he was so creepy looking and was very out of place for where I was. No one goes into that bush and I had never seen him around the estate where it was) to the dog, and completely veered off and went around the corner. I ran all the way home haha
I think it's pretty cool how you walk around with huge dogs cause can't your dog just hurt people when protecting you won't get in trouble or do you get in trouble for what the dog does, either ways Imagine having like 5 of these at the same time walking around you, people would just cross the street and shit or turn around and walk back the same direction they came from, about the horse riding tho, do you participate in like horse racing or something, it definitely saves you on gas money that's for a fact and fun fact, did you know horses actually have like 4 horsepower, which is something I never expected, whoever calculated horse power is a failure 🤣
Yeah it’s pretty fun.
Well where I’m from, it’s pretty much illegal to hurt someone or god forbid hurt someone in self defence. If someone comes onto your property and you shoot them, you’ll probably go to jail - especially if they’re killed.
But I’m pretty sure dogs are kinda the loop hole. I’m sure for a protection dog you might have to have permits. But if someone attacks you and your dog defends you, I don’t think you can get in trouble from that as far as I know.
I work at a horse place riding/exercising and caring for the horses and farm chores. I have weekly riding lessons (like you would basketball training) and we’re thinking about leasing a horse for me to do pony club and competitions on, so like showjumping and stuff.
Your country needs some castle law at the least, lowkey, that sounds fire tho, what's better than doing something you love? Getting paid for doing something you love, I know there's different breeds that can be faster than others and stuff, either that or I'm playing too much red dead redemption, I know there was this breed that they grow huge, you literally need like a ladder to get on it, if they don't use ladders then I honestly don't know how they get on those horses
I don't know if it's this breed but I know there was a specific horse breed that the fur turns white after some time so we even have horses that change color
@TheCloud2 yeah this isn’t age-ism, it’s sexism
discrimination for being a man? no... not particularly
besides those times in which I had to "go first" because it's dangerous and well, you're the man so you go face the very potentially lethal threat (which is something I would do on my own regard anyway) I don't remember right now something in particular
oh wait... elementary days, I remember there were some times in which the smartest girl in the school would be sent to academic competitions instead of me because well, she was prettier and more outgoing than me so it gives a better image to the school, lol... but I never feel discriminated because of that, in fact I was the happiest about not going anywhere, never liked those competitions
I don't know if that counts lol
me neither... lol
that's why I said I do not remember a time in particular in which I was discriminated for being a man... and if I did, I guess I don't care much to remember it, lol
Fair enough lol
Yes. Racist sexism to boot, or it was just a handy "out" for them. I was looking for a computer programming position (this was years ago!). The hiring company knew what I looked like (W-M): they had my resume. The company put us through several paper and pencil tests about programming and logic. Then there was the - da-da-da-daaaaaahhhh- interview. A W-F did the interviewing and was like "this is great, that's great, aced the tests" yada, yada. "If you were a black female, I could hire you in a minute". have a good life.
But WHY go through all the jazz if they are only hiring boyfriend's? sad.

I have. When I was hurt, like broken arm and shoulder, my job fired me, I needed some kind of disability support, and the social workers literally told me "we don't help men, so unless you suddenly sprout a vagina or have kids, there is no assistance for you."
Another time was in family court for my brother, his ex accused him of rape and sex abuse against her and their children, he had a mountain of evidence that said he didn't do anything, including testimony from a GAL that said the kids should be with him and not her because she beat their kids. It was all thrown out, and he was told he would never be permitted to see his kids again.
Damn, they just told you straight up like that?
Yes exactly
Yes its happened at work and when I'm driving.
A couple of months back an English white guy swore at me while I was driving and shouted "you f*cking foreigners don't know how to drive, females!" He pissed me off so much I was fuming and I shouted back 'I was born here and I speak English" not looking down on him but his accent was what you call Cockney and im well spoken, I speak f*cking better English than him!
If it makes you feel better where I live most people can't drive and today when I was asking for a price to add a golden tint to my glock the Russian owner just showed me out and said to wait outside for 15 minutes, he isn't getting my money after that and I left, people are dicks but that shit will bite then on the buttcheeks at their own time
Them*
I was the fastest runner in my class and a guy told me I was too fast for a girl. I know guys are most likely to be faster but there are some exceptions and he still didn't have to say that. It hit my sensitive little heart.
I think he was just salty he isn't fast enough
Lmao maybe!
Yes sadly quite often. Mostly in my job in the form of hatemail, rapetreats or worse. I am a culmnist if that matters.
Damn that's pretty crazy
I think so at one job she wanted me topless I did but felt a bit odd about it if she paid double i would of done the job naked
That's pretty wild lol
I´m not sure if it counts but a literature called me the boy with the girly handwriting because she felt that my handwriting too good looking for a guy.
That hit home during puberty.
Damn that cold 😂
Well people always post stuff against straight men (mainly white men) and it angers me lol
Sure have
How did it happen?
Working at a college store, the female boss would always assign me to do the heavy lifting when there were girls also working in the back room who could lift them
I see, so they were strong enough to lift it? Cause you said heavy lifting lol
Yes boxes over 50 lbs. as opposed to under 30
Hmm I see 🤔
Yep nothing over 100 lbs. if they are working in the back room the girls should have been able to lift them too right? Not force me to do all of it just because I’m a guy
You didn't tell em anything
What would I tell them
That they don't get paid to slack lol
I saw coworkers slack but I’m there to do my job and help the team. in my opinion it’s the managers job to evaluate slackers and encourage or deal with them.
Well yea but where does that leave you tho
Getting paid and getting work done
You would've gotten paid anyways tho
Of course I have.
Duh.
Yes.
It's EVERYWHERE
