I'm on the verge of ending it all. (i'll explain) but what do you think I should do?

Toyota yaris 2009. Had this car for years and i changed the spark plugs because it was being full of shi. So i ride an hour out and it's showing it's hot but it doesn't stop running. I got to work, 15 minutes and this mofo shuts off. I think "it's too hot" i put in coolant, mofo still won't move. I have no idea what's wrong with this mofo and I'm on the verge of losing it. I already told my job on the weekends I can come and he is my consistent paycheck while the one here pays bi-weekly. So i need some actual knowledge, wtf could be wrong with my car? Can it be saved or should I just drop a down payment for a new one?

Wouldn't do this if I didn't have much options... i'm not gonna rob a bank but i'm gonna start crying. :)

How much coolant did you have to add? Could be a bad water pump, could be a bad thermostat. Did you look on the ground to see if there was coolant on the ground? When it was running did it make a knocking sound? Some of these cars have a low coolant levels and it will not let the car start until the coolant is hitting that sensor.

Well the head can be replaced, but if it got hot enough it could do some serious internal damage

Yeah, the guy said it has taken serious damage. It is very unlikely it'll start again. Hell, it don't now and makes it very hard for me to try to bring it to someone

If it got hot enough to shut off, it definitely warped the head, 2 gallons low on cooling, basically the motor cooked itself

Could be many things if you overheated it. Might be clogged head gaskets. Might have bent a valve or two. What exactly overheated? The transmission can overheat if it's an automatic. When that happens, your tranny is toast. Will it still run and just not move?

It won't run or move, the thing is a damn toy car. It moves if it's pushed. It could be one of the above but we ain't sure yet. We just know coolant didn't help. Think it's just not catching fire and that's really bad.

Is it trying to start? If so, then it might be the head gasket. If that leaks, coolant will get onto of the pistons. Then it will not fire. Head gaskets are not expensive, just the labor is. On that car, without a proper shop, it'll take me about 3 to 5 hours to do one.

One way to check, is try to start it and then pull a spark plug. Sniff it for coolant.

Definitely could. Especially the tires if they're good too. A junk yard might give you a little bit of money for the whole thing.

What makes you think it is too hot. Does the car have a actual gauges or idiot lights, i. e.. lights that come on when something is supposed to be wrong but give you no information. If you have a mechanic that you can trust- and I think its worthwhile cultivating a relationship with any professional and paying a few hundred bucks a visit. Ask him/her to take a look at it and give you an opinion. For less than $100 you'll probably wind up saving that and more esp. over time.

Well it said on the left that it's too hot with the red light. So now for certain, my car is dead. Unless there's a SMALL chance I can get a new engine

Look for obvious water leaks and check the engine oil level. Both can cause the symptoms.

Do you have a red battery light showing when the engine is running or an unusual rattle from the water pump, (driven by the belt from the alternator and will have 2 large hoses). That could point to a knackered water pump.

Other than that, go to a garage/shop and get them to run a diagnostic check. At least then you would know whether or not to spend money on it.

Also, if it got too hot it would seize and not turn over. If that's the case, you've probably caused expensive internal damage. Or, not turn over to start because of a broken alternator belt resulting in overheating and a flat battery.

D:... oh fuk. Yeah, my car may be fuked at this point. My friends have said at this point, it's over, time for a new car. But yeah, it does show check engine on the right and "too hot" on the left.

If it got that hot, you cooked the motor and it's now just scrap metal. You can either have the motor replaced for about $4000 or just get a new car

you most likely have a hole in your radiator hose which is causing your engine block to overheat when your pistons are firing

What do you mean by you put in coolant? Did you drive it without enough water/coolant? That would mean you most likely destroyed the head gasket.

I mean, previously it was losing fluids because WHO DA FAQ LEAVES A GIANT BLACK THING IN THE ROAD? anyways, thought it was a glitch as it was getting hot after we put in a new radiator, then more oil 2 days later and now it's sitting in the driveway, not starting.

Did someone competent diagnose that the radiator was leaking? Because a faulty hose, head gasket or coolant expansion tank are equally likely.
And leaking oil would be of course a different matter (unless it’s a faulty head gasket or warped cylinder head, which could explain loss of both coolant and oil)!

sounds like your oil pan might have a hole or leak in it

if it's losing fluids you either have a hole in one of the hoses to your radiator or a leak or hole in your oil pan

No sure where you live exactly but maybe check on engine replacement (if it seized up). That model you should be able to get done for about $1500 or so. A lot I know but much less than a new used car.

Follow your top hose to the engine there 2 bolts take off and then replace the part the theremstate. Google changing theremstate

I'm surprised you are having si many problems with your Yaris. My mom has one from 2010 and it's excellent. Not even a single mechanical problem since it was purchased. It runs like new.

When you start the car does it seem like it's running normally? Around 15-20 minutes after driving does the gauge go from cool to hot?
