When's the last time you had to shelter in place due to severe weather and Where were you?

Mine was the other day. Was at work when the tornado siren went off and it wasn't a drill. So wound up packed into the smaller lunch room without windows for at least an hour and a half. When I say we were packed in like sardines in a can, it's probably an understatement.

I frequently hear people choosing to move away from California due to earthquakes, yet they choose to move to areas that have frequent tornadoes or hurricanes. With climate change, these wind storms are increasing in frequency and intensity. Earthquakes happen much less often than these high wind storms. Not only that... by the time you realize you're in an earthquake, it's pretty much over. I believe it would be much more stressful knowing a storm is coming yet not knowing exactly where or when it will hit. It's a lot harder to design a single family residence that will withstand high wind storms than earthquakes.

I've been under mandatory evacuations due to fires (that never got close to my home), and there was one time the roads were closed due to snow, but I've never been told to shelter in place due to severe weather. If anything, I wish you'd send some of your rain my way.

nothing that bad really... I just had to wait it out at Home Depot, because that sudden storm suddenly broke out, and it was that kind that likes to spawn little tornadoes and stuff, lol

We get storm warnings, had one two days ago. Nobody listens to them. We have washes to direct the heavy rain. Only once within the last twenty years did we have so much it ripped up streets and such.

They have since built houses inside that main river, building tiny washes around the homes to redirect water. It’s going to be bad when that happens again. How the city approved that.. they have a warm seat waiting for them I’m sure.

I filmed a tornado forming above us two streets over. It never came down. Never had a warning either. It was in the middle of a red sunset which made for great footage.

We get more “fire storms” than anything. 70+ winds and fire are not a great combo.

Last year, during a funeral service when the tornado sirens went off we ushered everyone into the basement. Fortunately it wasn't that crowded. The tornado was several miles away and didn't touch down. The severe weather passed in about 20 minutes. I don't recall the sirens even going off once this year except for tests; that's pretty rare for tornado alley.

I couple years ago there was a tornado near my apartment when I lived in Atlanta, Georgia. We had to hang out in our bathroom for a bit. The whole bathroom (tub included) was probably like 20 square feet. Not a lot of space for two adults, a golden retriever and a cat. Especially when the cat hates the dog lol

A few years ago probably. Advancements in technology have made false alarm rates go down in tornado warnings among other weather related warnings. Therefore. The number of tornado warnings has been less in my area.

Every few years I say we get one. Sometimes more. Sometimes many times in a year. Depending. Sometimes more then on in a night before. But that’s rare.

Twenty years ago or so, coming back into town by bus. The second my buddy and I stepped out of the bus, the most violent rain I have ever encountered came down (~100l/h/sqm). Cars were stopping, as their wipers were unable to clear the front screen. Fire service was going for hours, pumping cellars. We sheltered at a near supermarket for half an hour or so, then, after the worst was over, stole some large plastic ad boards and used them as umbrellas to walk home. 😬

Back in June. Was on a conference call with multiple storms surrounding the area all tornadic producing. One was coming right for my place and the siren is right outside my house. Definitely heard it, just ignored it and went on since I could pinpoint the circulation was past the spot

It was many years ago. I was in my room at a hotel in Missouri when a tornado warning went off. We all had go go ingo the hall as a precaution. The tornado was about a mile away and we ended up being unaffected. After an hour, we were allowed back in our rooms.

I think it was Wed, or Thursday we had a front go through and there were a few tornadoes.
I was at my house and was thinking I would go to the firehouse, but I decided to stay home.
That way I could take my cats to the basement if it got bad here, and I wouldn't have my truck sitting outside in case it hailed or branches were coming down.
I figured if we got a call, it would be when the worst was over, and I'm not far from the station.

Last time I recall was Summer 2019. I was at Disney World and it would rain for a bit every day. It wasn't a huge problem. There were plenty of places where you could be that were covered. One day in The Hall of Presidents while it was raining everyone's cell phones went off at the same time. There was a tornado warning.

I was probably outdoors like usually. If you do not dress after weather you are not too weak, you are simply just stupid and might suffer or even die.
People nowadays do not prepare themselves at all for a hellhole situation and then go on social media to whine while being not only ignorant, but being dumb as well.
That is why rewind of time is needed, otherwise everyone would not be able to get on the train of change.
