Are more cars automatic in USA compared to stick shift?

As of 25+ years ago, auto transmissions were refined to the point that they were virtually equal to a manual on efficiency, and would last 200,000 miles on average, so they became the norm on nearly all cars, with the only exception being a few of the most basic cars as well as a few models specifically sold as enthusiasts' cars (sports cars). Nearly all mass-market cars are autos and have been for some time in the US.

And this is now becoming irrelevant anyway, as we move to electric vehicles, which don't have or need transmissions. They operate *like* a simplified auto transmission - essentially a Park, Drive, Neutral, and Reverse option - though there's no actual transmission involved.

Yeah, the vast majority are automatics. I prefer a nice bolt action shift machine, but currently 3 of my 4 cars are automatics. The 69 camaro might get converted back next year though. Expensive retrofit, but I'm considering it.

Yes by a large number, most cars in US are automatic.
