Why do I feel translating for people isn't really communicating with people?

I actually hate my job as a phone Spanish-English translator. I feel like a robot saying the same introductory script, no emotions on the phone and no real enthusiam at all.

I never feel like I'm really connecting and communicating with people at all. Why do I feel that?

At a base you are not communicating but enabling communication.

Now that does not limit you from communicating. There are many things that even a high quality translation might fail to properly translate. Things like this is an opportunity for you to open a real dialogue. And to some extent, this ability to enrich understanding is that little bit of star quality that makes people specifically request you.

Yes and I hate it when they read long scripts and I'm expected to memorize all that.

Perhaps it's because the conversation isn't yours. Meaning that people don't want to talk to you specifically. Or because you're just saying what you're supposed to say, not what you really feel or think.
