Is it weird to be bilingual but hate translating?

I think this is the reason I hate translating too much:
My parents tried using me as their personal translator when I was just 9-10 years old. I was still learning at that age and didn't know how does an auto insurance policy works nor some difficult terms. Instead of learning, they excused it that since they have me, there was no need to learn English. Eventually my father started learning some and stopped relying on me all the time.

It's already bad that's my daily job (the only think available for me at the moment) and plan to leave it one day. I have to admit I have no patience to teach non-English speakers. I don't like translating a long conversation nor detailed letters for others either. Is this weird?

I don't know I don’t think it’s weird, at the end of the day they just don’t speak English that well or at all. Its not their fault, I have to translate for my mom all the time and I don’t get upset because I know it’s not her first language. People are cruel in this world so if my mother needs to understand something I will sure as hell translate that shit for her any time any day I don’t mind but I get where your coming from

No I think it’s perfectly fine to feel that way. I know when I try to speak Spanish I just hope we don’t offend another culture by doing so. I’m not fluent I can hold a little conversation. And there’s technology now

Not at all, not everyone is cut out to be a translator or interpreter, but it should be mentioned that doing written translations is a lot different than doing real-time oral interpretation.

Yes it's different. My job is basically a call center, nonstoppable oral translations. By the time I'm done, I'm exhausted already and want nothing to do with it.

Yeah, simultaneous interpretation is hard, much harder than written translations. What are your languages?

It's harder the more sentences they add in their conversations. Sometimes they add too much that it can be harder to memorize it all and then convert it into the determined language.
My languages are English, Spanish and intermediate French (not fluent with that one but I just like learning more during my spare time).

Actually once I'm done with this job, I actually don't want to have anymore bosses nor supervisors; but rather by the boss myself and have others working for me. What I want is to build up my online food business and it into a growing restaurant. It's just that I need to save enough money and can construct it if I get married with my boyfriend. I don't have enough place but he has space in his area.

It's good you have a plan (also a business plan). Just work on saving up capital and knowing your target market.

I don't think it's weird. It seems frustrating. And frustrating because you might have to speak longer than what entails in English.

indeed it takes longer... usually 2x the amount of time
For instance a simple communication that would've been finished in 5 minutes, takes 10 minutes.

yes it takes longer the more explanation on the sentence... I hate this job
