Your job sounds like the corporate world. If so, I can relate to the environment. It's full of busybodies and people always watching and listening just waiting to tell everybody about something. Also the guys nowadays gossip more than the females, and they're two-faced with their own little fraternity groups.
But rest easy knowing this unfortunate fact: you can do everything right at work and people will still find a reason to say you did something even when you really didn't. So what if you were seen talking to so and so? That was your business and you don't need to explain it unless the other person complained about you talking to them, and the only person you need to explain to is the manager if they bring it to your attention.
Best thing to do is not let it be known to people that the toxic environment is getting to you, because that's what they want. Always keep a cheerful attitude and keep coming in on time, chat with the ones you like, and show good job performance. This irritates people who hate you or gossip about you, because they want to see you frustrated and worried about all the drama. Don't give it to them.

Don't dwell on it- move on and realize that things won't always be like that.
I keep as much to myself as I can, and leave work problems at the door when I clock out. Although there are a few women I’m cordial with, I don’t have work friends. To me it’s better, that way I can avoid any drama or gossip. Just do my hours for the money then go home to my real life with people who actually matter.
