I got declined by my first girlfriend of 5 years long ago when I was 22 years old. She was the same age too. The age wasn't the real reason. I found out she didn't feel the same.
Several years later, I tried it again just this past Christmas with my current girlfriend of 2 years. This time the answer was an immediate yes. Now I feel the past can finally be put at rest, buried.
If I had failed again, yeah I would probably not ever open up again to another woman. I would've probably given up on love by then. Overall, I know one must not give up easily but is there a limit towards putting up with rejection? Does it comes to a point that if you're rejected again, you just don't ever want to risk it again?

If you are talking about marriage, then I am not inclined to do that. In general for me, no. I am not the type who plots and plans and spends weeks or months working up the nerve to ask a girl out. If she catches my fancy and she seems single, I approach and ask. The non-investment is likely why I am never devastated by a rejection.
yeah I was caught off guard the first time I ever popped the question to my then first girlfriend. I wasn't prepared for a girl saying no to that. I'm over it already though. My current girlfriend (well now fiancee) said yes.
Had I been declined again, then I would've never propose ever again. I would've dedicated on being single by then.
Yes and no. There's no end to how much women can and will reject you man.
But as a MAN you should only tolerate it to a point. Never lose your self respect to ANY woman.
It sounds like you have moved on, and Id say that's a good thing.
I did something different than the first time. Weeks prior, I had a final conversation (to reconfirm) with her about forming a family, just to make sure we're on the same page. So that way I would be sure her answer was a yes and not be caught off guard again with a decline. I'm glad I've succeeded this time but I was indeed kind of nervous at that moment.
Congrats.
