Thats not how genetics work, both my parents have done drugs, i've never done any though, because when their genes were mixed, I only got the parts that weren't addiction triggers (or rather I only got a mix that doesn't trigger addiction). It's still genetic, because the genetic mix that either of my parents got made them addicts.
Everything you ever do is because of your individual genetics, it effects how you feel, how you think, how you remember, how you respond to something.
Usually addicts are born with other health issues that make them defficient or overabundant in something, and their genes also decide how they feel about that as well, if they feel bad about it, it can cause addiction to a drug.
How we grow up impacts our knowledge received, our genetics impacts our knnowkedge comprehended, and what information we care about or remember. So even that is genetic influence, there is always genetic influence because a person IS their genetics.
I think the reason people can't get behind this idea is becsuse they don't think about the fact that it if our genes govern us, we still have free will, because we are our genes.
Home > Other > Polls > Do you believe that things like drug abuse, alcholism, etc. are truly genetic like some people say or learnt bad behaviors from parents?

I feel like those things are more like learned behaviors and how easily influenced you are by your family and peers, but it could actually be both
Nope my dad was an alcoholic and also smokes luckily I didn't get those habits
I believe it’s genetic. Something has to trigger it though, and be on more than one occasion
Varying degrees of both. And it’s on a case by case basis.
I think it's learned behavior, from others or how it has affected them.
Yay dopamine.
It's mostly a coping mechanism for past trauma or something that's missing in the persons life, money, education, sex, love, relationships etc..
I don’t think Genetics has anything to do with it. Goes to the parent or parents who did not care what you did and to the people you hang around with.
Nope, my mother is alcohol addict but I am not
Not genetic. A friend of mine does nithing but his parents are Junkies.

@TheSpaceGnome Oh like that yes I see :)
@TheSpaceGnome I always believed in just the place we grow up in, or perhaps bad influences can get us in the same problems as those before us.
👍👍

knowledge*
Any time you or snyone else understands something, your genes allowed for that. Your genes are the driving force of your entire body, brain and all.

They are learned from bad habits to look cool with other people that do that and it’s not cool
in my opinion most of those problems are only a series of bad choices.
It can be a combination of things. This is too simplistic.
It's both you may be genetically disposed to it but learned behaviour makes it almost certain
I don’t think it has to do with genetics. Not every heroin user comes from a line of heroin users. It is a matter of personal choices.
Mostly learned from direct environment and societal influence.
Drug abuse is a learned behavior, alcoholism is hereditary.
mixture of both learned behavior and genetics and peer pressure and lack of self control lack of will power to not use when tempted to
That is not always the case.
It's both.
Definitely learned behavior
