When someone compliments you, do you believe them?

I honestly don’t. But, I just accept the compliment because I don’t want to come off as rude. If someone says I’m pretty, I don’t believe them but I would say thank you anyway.

I do believe them. Because unless there's some clear reason someone might lie when complimenting me (they're hoping to gain something from me).. then why on earth would anyone choose to compliment me if they didn't mean it.

How do you figure people are lying when complimenting you. There is no reason for most people to lie. And if they are lying. Why? What are they hoping to gain by doing so? It makes no sense.

If they compliment my intelligence, I am truly complimented and I express that to them.

If they compliment my appearance, I disbelieve that because I know better.
