How else would you meet somebody unless someone set you up with them? It seems to me that everyone you meet is by some sort of chance, whether at school, at work, through mutual friends, or by random encounter.

I'd advise to take opportunities when they present themselves and see what develops.

That's a fantasy that sounds amazing when you are young. But when you get older you understand that unless you know them, you really don't know them. Most people are shinny on the outside but horrible on the inside. Take your time to know a person. You also know the person from their actions and their relationships with other people and the people they hangout with. It takes a long time before whatever they present in front of you matches their real self.

Guys lie to sleep with you and women lie to marry you. You learn a lot more about a person on how they interact with other people and their circle of friends. You should watch a Joe Rogan clip about this guy cheating on a golf game. The wife saw him and told her husband don't do business with him. He told her she was overreacting but guess what? A little while later the guy went to jail for stealing.
