They shouldn't trust me. Just because they know who I am doesn't mean I've done enough to warrant trust with them. I know the bagger at the grocery store because I go there 5x/week, doesn't mean either of us should trust the other. I constantly see the same people at charity races every weekend (not the same person at each, but I'm heavy in the circuit, so most weekends I see at least one person from a prior race) and that doesn't mean I trust them with anything. Trust is earned. "Knowing me" isn't earned.
I respect and understand that. Heck, I don't trust most people either so I understand completely. You don't just "trust" people: it has to be earned. And that usually takes time and patience, along with proving you can be trusted. That's easier for some people than others.
So it's not really an insult so much as a, "prove you're worth trusting" or if you don't think said person is worth it, move on.
