Do you RINSE the dishes BEFORE going in the DISHWASHER?

Question

Isn't it interesting how, when the family gets together for the holidays, you almost always have some interesting discussions?

This year, dishwashers became a big topic, as we were all helping cleanup after Christmas dinner. Some of us (me included) say you just put the dirty dishes in the dishwasher, while others (my SO was one) says it's important to rinse them (almost wash them) before putting them in the dishwasher.

It should not really be a question , when selling new homes I received a lot of tuition on dishwashers , and I've worked with commercial dishwashers , in a domestic situation you must always rinse the dishes first , otherwise you not only constantly clog your filter , you get a Sht clean , and you limited the life of your dishwasher , no matter what the manufacturer says , so don't be lazy peeps , ALWAYS rinse , please.

Footnote , for the first time since 1984 , I do not have a dishwasher , plumbing is not quite the same here , nor is water quality , so they do have them but nowhere near as common , so there's a market for someone , but nothing is easy here , its nothing like USA , for adaptability.

I rinse dirty dishes and often use a soapy sponge thing to remove particles and residue before putting them in the dishwasher.

Sometimes I just put dishes in the dishwasher to dry. If I cleaned them thoroughly enough before putting there, I'll take them out and reuse them.

I always wash utensils by hand, dry them, and put them back in the drawer.

If you rinse them first food doesn't harden on the dishes and make them harder to get clean. Some dishwashers claim to be able to still clean them spotless, even if you don't rinse them first. I've never seen one do it yet.

Mine is so clean…it really doesn’t need to go through the dish washer.

my work colleague told me her kids don’t and has to replace her machine about every 5 years.

I personally think it’s unnecessary to own a dish washer.

I don’t have a dishwasher I wash by hand but I do rinse everything before washing, then I’ll pile it on the counter and start my chosen pattern to clean them

The logic of rinsing is to protect the dishwasher from clogging the food filter.

The enzymes in the detergent can't work unless there's food stuck to the plate.  Just let the dog eat the scraps then pop them unrinsed into the dishwasher

I have one but I never use it. Not a ton of dishes, so I just wash as I go. My lady’s mother has a newer dishwasher and I always go to rinse my dishes, and she’s weirdly adamant that I don’t. She has a garbage disposal in the sink too, I can’t imagine what the issue is. Supposedly it’s a really good dishwasher and it handles debris of that level, but still…. why not pressure the machine less and it will hopefully last longer?

Most dishes go straight in, but I'll rinse off particularly dirty dishes or some things that from previous experience I know don't come off well in the dishwasher.

Don't mind loading it, but hate emptying it. My trick is to discretely turn it on again, and say "It hasn't finished yet".

I tend to wash them unless it’s worth using the dishwasher. If I use it then I always rinse first.

yes I scrape, rinse and wash. I scrape off the large bits of leftover food, rinse off the smaller bits and than put it in the dishwasher.
