Is it common for a once shy, bullied girl to change radically?

Anonymous

I used to get bullied (socially and mainly by girl but few guys joined in to ridicule me too) from grades 4th to 8th. It all stopped in HS and I had a couple friends but I was still shy, school oriented and reserved. Some from middle school requested me and I hate holding grudges so I added them. They greet me sometimes.

Fast-forward to age 27:

It's been a year since I've started forming more new friends, becoming more talkative and improved my social skills significantly. These past 4 months (shortly after receiving my Master's) I've been going to parties sometimes and became somewhat popular in the group. Popularity is what I never could get in my school years. For New Year's Eve I went clubbing with some friends, danced and got very drunk like no tomorrow.

I changed from my former self to someone that's straight-forward, outgoing and sometimes not serious, into having fun and wild. I'm no longer the innocent, pushover girl others at school once knew. How often do changes like this happen? Going from shy to wild? Is this common?
