Purity culture tends to create sex offenders, turn women into objects, create porn addicts and sex obsessed people, and make people miserable. It's not good, making something taboo only makes people obsess over it. You can teach sexual caution without brainwashing people into fearing sex and forgetting it's not the biggest thing in life.
My teens are both virgins with no intention of changing that status any time soon. We are a sex positive household. They've been educated on the risks and realities of the human body and sex since they were old enough to understand (broken down for them depending on developmental stage). They can ask me anything about it and get answers. They know that gambling on a bunch of sex partners is not in their best interest, and both turned out much more rigid about their sex lives when given all of the data and information from the start. They didn't need me to brainwash them or force "purity" on them.
I likely would have made very different decisions about my own sex life as well if someone had bothered to educate me better and earlier.20 Reply

+1 yI used to follow a female on YouTube who talked about contemporary issues that appealed to me like attraction or etiquette or dating procedures and one day I observed her making demeaning remarks about another female who might have been a little more sexual than her and I deleted her video from my follower YouTubers. A person who does wrong is not a worthless ant you can treat like dead cattle. They still have God given value and societal relevance and social importance. It’s okay to suspend social inclusions or conversational endorsement if somebody is acting roughly but to talk about then like an animal makes you a hater and the bible says being a hater of people who sin is worse than being a sinner who does not hate others. Jesus did not hate sinners when he was on earth but he spoke all kinds of curses over those who judged and abused those who sinned. It’s just like if your cat gets dirty, you don’t kill the car for getting dirty, you force the cat to take a bath in cold water. The punishment must not exceed the crime.

Don't know what that is but nothing wrong with being pure of heart, if you can find a woman that is you are set for life.

10 Reply364 opinions shared on Other topic. That would be an understatement.
I think humanity's obsession with purity is one of the primary forces maintaining its moral myopia. The idea that once you've done something "wrong", you're somehow tainted and nothing you do from that point onward matters is so messed up as to be completely backwards. How they behave when they are no longer "pure" is the real judge of their character.20 Reply2.4K opinions shared on Other topic. Sort of. I think the strongest advocates of purity culture are trolls employed by the far right. And I think far righ5 billionaires have intentionally set out to damage society. But purity culture is merely the tool they selected to do it. They could have selected something else.

+1 yI don’t like it.
We are not born to abstain from the pleasures of life. We are born to indulge in them as long as we are alive.
22 Reply- +1 y
Thats also my point purity culture is purely controlling and giving guilty about pleasure to have sex to people
- +1 y
I guess so. I don’t judge people for doing what makes them happy. I abstain myself though, not because I am pure or anything, just because I think I am too impure to let people know about it, unless I trust and love them.
+1 yAn ideology only becomes dangerous when it's forced upon others. You can eat what you like, say what you want, dress in your own way. But cussing out people who don't have your ideology, or making them follow your procedures? That's infringing on personal choice.
As long as I'm not being forced to avoid sex and wear white dresses, the cellibates can live their lives how they please. Same goes for hating overtly sexual people.06 Reply- +1 y
It’s dangerous because it is always forced on others through fear and pressure

+1 yI can’t stand purity culture, it’s a bunch of perverted old men trying to control the bodies of young women. I think the government should cancel the tax exempt status for any religious organization that seeks to impose purity culture or conversion therapy.

+1 yIt might be OK if the person chooses it for themselves. But if I'm being honest, I think it's just an old way of stopping the spread of STDs, STIs, pregnancy, etc. We're way more advanced at making birth control, tests, vaccines, and protection to where it shouldn't be that much of a problem anymore. I'll admit when I was a teenager, I decided to be abstinent. But since I'm older I decided to just forget about someone needing to wear that wedding ring in order to have sex with me.

+1 yNo, certainly not. Everyone is entitled to live as they choose within the confines of the law. The problem is when certain groups impose their beliefs and morals on others. It gets messy after that.

Noble.
I'd say the sexual revolution and hook up culture, rampant STDs and abortions and single parent homes has ruined society.

Purity culture doesn't even do any good... it encourage misogyny loot at middle east they all time restrict womans right in the name of purity
Opinion Owner+1 yNot sure what it's like in India but in the US purity culture is a positive thing.
- +1 y
Usa has high rate of birth outsite wedlock over 50% even it is high among whole Europe... while it is low in india and middle east
Opinion Owner+1 yThe rate of births outsite of wedlock in the US is 40% based on the most recent studies. The rate was about 5% in the early 1960s and then skyrocketed through the 2000s and has leveled off slightly since then, due in part to a modest return to what you refer to as "purity culture". What caused that dramatic increased in the decades since 1960 was the opposite of purity culture.
I don't support the misogyny and lack of women's rights in India and the middle East, but those things are not part of purity culture, which just encounges both sexes to not be promiscuous before marriage.
You said yourself the rate of births outside of wedlock in India is very low, and you are correct. Is that not a good thing? Purity culture is responsible for that.- +1 y
You can see from geography that countries with low birth rate outside marriage such as in African muslim nation, india and middle east has rampant misogyny... ever heard of honor killing? in india, saudi, yemen woman got killed if they found with their lover by thier male relatives... divorced woman regarded as used good and a lot of woman have to pass virginity test in these regions whicj is not the case in west...
Opinion Owner+1 yYou are conflating encouraging people to not have sex outside of marriage with murder?
"Dude" (I don't believe you are one by the way), that is just ridiculous.- +1 y
In middle east many woman get killid for having pre marital sex and law doesn't even arrest rhe man for it
Opinion Owner+1 yAgain, that has zero to do with encouraging people to not have sex outside of marriage
- +1 y
How zero? thna tell me why honor killing doesnr happen in west but in countries where purity culture ramapnt?
Opinion Owner+1 yPurity can be taught and encouraged in many ways that don't require harming anyone.
Your question should have criticized honor killings, not encouraging responsible behavior.- +1 y
Than tell me any country where honor killing common but purity culture not? due to purity culture woman if they have sex before marriage get called slut and many more they even lose thier life by their brother or father...
Opinion Owner+1 yDiscouraging promiscuity is a good thing. Killing people is not. Simple.
Why are you pretending to be a man here?- +1 y
Why you feel like I am woman? every purity culture country has honor killing with high ratio... it connected well... countries like western and thailand, south korea doesn't even have that much restriction towards pre marital sez and these countries so not even have honor killing... only middle east, india and africa
Opinion Owner+1 yIf you Google purity culture you'll see it is most often associated with Christianity, which is prevalant in the US and Europe. So no, it's not only in the countries you listed.
Every word you've written here comes from the perspective of a woman. You're not a man.- +1 y
Purity culture nore prevelant among muslim country not christian one... christians have more pre marital sex compared with muslim
Opinion Owner+1 yYou don't understand what the term means. It encourages people to only have sex within marriage or committed relationships. What you're talking about in muslin countries is a very different thing. Call it what it is... mysoginy and murder. That's not purity culture, ma'am.
Are you going to answer my question?
Opinion Owner+1 yLet me ask you this... are you a feminist?
- +1 y
For the last time I am not even mam people should have the right to have sex with consent not shame people for having sex which purity culture do
- +1 y
I am not even a feminist
Opinion Owner+1 yNo, purity culture is discouraging promiscuity, period. What you are talking about is not purity.
Tell me this, do you think the high rate of childless fathers is a good thing?- +1 y
Government should take a step to force the father of a child to take responsibility and from high school they need to teach about child birth also... and teenagers are full of raging hormone and there is a great chance they will have sex
Opinion Owner+1 yThe government does force the father of a child to take responsibility here in the US. They always have, and there is plenty of education about sex and birth control here. And yet the fatherless child rate here is 40% anyway. What's lacking today is morals, and that is what is taught by purity culture.
Teenagers have always been full of hormones, and yet promiscuity is far worse here today than in the past. That's why there are so many fatherless children. Just saying teenagers are going to have sex is a dumb mindset. Teaching them to be responsible is a better approach, not just throwing your hands in the air and saying "teenagers are gonna fuck no matter what".
Only a woman would say men should be forced to take responsibility for their child without also acknowledging that a woman would never have gotten pregnant in the first place if she had been more responsible. You're a woman.- +1 y
A lot of couple in west take child before marriage in relationship why you are also including couples with them? even in middle east child born in marriage raised by single mathet and as fatherless as they let the child and mother go direct stray and government do not even force father to take responsibility...
+1 yI admire it for those who can make that decision for themselves. Probably would prevent a lot of drama in the world. It wasn’t the choice I made but I respect it in others. In their end - their life, their choice. As it should be.

- +1 y
We have been raised completely oppositely because of the fact that women have babies and ne'er do well men who only want sex can often use young, incautious women to their detriment.
But men and women shouldbe raised to be responsible about sex. Sex education is part of this, but it is rare in middle schools and high schools, as if NOT giving teens information will keep them, "pure."
THis is ridiculous. When something is deemed "taboo" there is great curiosity about it and men and women are drawn to experimenting.
In Catholic school in fifth grade we got sex education classes back in the 1960s! This lead to me reading books about it and learning more. Though I was extremely interested in sex, I also knew the consequences of unprotected sex because of my knowledge.
And this is how 95% of young people handle such information: they practice caution. WIth NO information they roll dice. Saying stay a virgin is not a solution. Knowledge is power. - +1 y
@Screenwriter i don't give a damn about if the girl i am with used protection or not, or carries disease or not they are a second thought at best, i don't want someone elses leftovers or share my girls whether with their past or future.
- +1 y
IF someone's relationship is over, they are not a "leftover" of someone else.
You cannot demand purity in a woman if you too do not adhere to the same standards. That is hypocrisy and the old "double" standard. - +1 y
This guy acting like misogynist and calling the girls leftover
- +1 y
@Screenwriter yes i have double standarts, grow up kids life is not fair my desires won't magically change out of a false sense of fairness and yes i can sure as hell demand purity from a woman even if i am a man whore, it is up to her to decide if she wants me this way or not but just because she might be okay with my past it doesn't mean i have to do the same, i have my own standarts and my partners has others.
also yes it makes them leftovers, do you know the definition of leftover?
remaining after the rest has been ''used''. the girls you mention is used, and don't come to me with girls having sex doesn't mean they are used they are consenting adults shit, no this makes them used in a sexual way and the consent part is even worse because it means she let that happen and was a willing and enjoying participant, either way she is still used and i don't have used goods. - +1 y
You yourself are used good male for a woman why a virgin woman be even date you you are a big red flag to them
- +1 y
yeah yeah same old misogyny shit, what will i tell you, being a pseudo misgynyst is far better than being a cuck everytime of everyday, also if your idea of misogyny is not wanting my mate to have sex with another dude (i say it again past or future is irrevelant) and i am a misogynyst because i don't want to share my partner like a cuck, i will be gladly a misgynyst.
- +1 y
do we live in the same world? most girls doesn't even like virgin guys and finds them creepy or as a loser.
also i don't know or care what they find in me, appearantly they don't care about my sexual past cuz i never even hide, to be honest i never hide anything, my honesty level is brutal, i am the type of guy who will confess after he cheats. - +1 y
I never considered the first person I was with as a cuck or something inferior because he was a virgin. We both were. And what if it was just him? I wouldn't look down on him. Everyone has a first time. He was neither creepy, nor a loser. True. I'm only one person.
But it certainly sounds like think brutal honesty is a positive thing. And why would you not care or know why a woman is with you or what they find in you of value? That's very odd.
There are things worth keeping to yourself. I'd never reveal anything I KNOW would hurt my SO. There is no absolute need for 100% honesty about your personal history, especially if it has little basis in your present relationship.
I hope you don't cheat. And if you did and ended the cheating without your SO knowing about it, what good what it do to reveal it, except to make YOU feel less guilty. But it would hurt your SO and bring distrust into your relationship. If it was a slip, then let it pass.
However, it doesn't sound like you're a healthy person to be in a relationship with. You should know why I woman wants to be with you. She should be impressed with the quality of your personhood.
Nothing between two people should be "brutal." Honesty, or anything else. - +1 y
@Screenwriter no need for %100 honesty and Just a slipp? Your undermining anything into auitinf your interest is disgusting, i am not honest because i feel guilty, i am honest because i am not a low life coward Who decivie People i to believing a happy lie and People in your mindset genuinely disgusts me, doesn't effect your current? How can you even stomach knowing if he knew your past he wouldn't want you? You are not deciving anyone but yourself you are keeping things hidden because you know they will end what you have or fear it Will and this is why there is an absolute need for %100 honesty, you don't have any right to keep anyone in a situation they wouldn't be Okay if they knew it, what they don't know won't hurt them is every cheaters excuse, absolute cowardice and makes you a pathetic excuse for a human being, and you calling me not a healthy person to be with? You are basically trying to justify deception if it keeps things smooth! Sorry kid but there is no White lies every lie is Black and there is no sugar coating things either bitter truths are ALWAYS better than sugar coated lies.

m +1 yWhat is purity culture?
03 Reply- +1 y
It's a subculture in Christianity. From what I found:
Purity culture places a strong emphasis on abstinence from sexual intercourse before marriage. Dating is discouraged entirely to avoid pre-marital sex.
Women and girls are told to cover up and dress modestly to avoid arousing sexual urges in men and boys. Purity culture also emphasizes traditional gender roles.
Masturbation is discouraged more strongly for women than for men.
As you can see, it's more towards women than men. And now I finally understand why masturbation is looked down upon by some religious people. - +1 y
@PBandJ_Nerd thank you. From that it sounds barking mad and a way to control a soceity.
