It’s really hard to explain, but I feel like the 1990s were the last decade where you had famous stars being stars. After the 90s, I think with the way the media shifted, celebs lacked the mystery of their star appeal, and with the addition of social media, I don't think we will have superstars anymore. In the 90s, you had the likes of MJ, Princess Diana, JFK Jr., Carolyn, et cetera. Maybe it's because back then there were fewer big media stars, and so the ones that were talked about seemed larger than life?
The perception of celebrities as "larger than life" and "mysterious" has evolved with changes in media and technology. While the 90s saw iconic figures with a certain mystique, today's social media era allows for more direct interaction between celebrities and their fans. The constant sharing of personal moments has made celebrities more accessible, reducing some of the mystique. However, the allure of larger-than-life figures persists in various forms, and certain celebrities still maintain an air of mystique. The concept has transformed rather than disappeared, adapting to the dynamics of contemporary fame and public engagement.

I lean towards "yes" although I'm not sure if it's not just an age bias since I don't pay as much attention to the media these days.
Yet I can't think of many action stars that seem to rival the likes and box office draw of, say, Arnie, Sly, Chuck Norris, Van Damme, Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Tom Cruise, Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh, Moon Lee, Cynthia Rothrock, Meiko Kaji, etc.
In the 80s and 90s, when a film with Arnie came out, it wasn't simply considered a film with Arnie in it. It was an "Arnie film". I don't get that impression from movies starring younger generations of actors these days.

I think you still have Superstars today i. e Taylor Swift, Drake, Ariana Grande, Nick Minaj, Beyoncé etc.. But the mystery behind them vanished with the start of paparazzi taking pictures of them going about their everyday life, and forming gossip around them and their lives. Then the Advent of social media where they became even more personalized, and completely lost their mystique.. Now we know what movies are coming out, who's starring in the movies, if they drop out, why they drop out, behind the scenes drama, who had sex with who, what they like to eat and do, etc.. Not to mention many post their private thoughts on social media.. I think it's a good and bad thing because it exposed the weirdos but a bad thing because much of the time it's TMI..
There's so many celebrities now. There's celebrities you might never have heard of. Like Dua Lipa.
I would say, that era ended in the 1960s.
Nope, the 70s, 80s
