How painful is it for a married man to find out he'll never have his own kids?

A couple months ago or so, I read a woman's post. They were trying to conceive so many times and the husband found out he has no vas deferens and also cystic fibrosis, rendering him infertile. He'll never be able to father a child. Meanwhile the woman is around my age, very fertile and with no issues.

I would like to place myself in his shoes. What must've been going through his head? How painful is that for a man like that, to find out you can't ever get your wife pregnant because you're infertile? Guys, how would painful would that be if you were that man?

Most men would be pretty devastated, because most men (today) in this position (married) want to have children (of their own) and pass down a legacy. Today, men who don't value children tend not to get married, so the ones who ARE married usually are the men who plan to have a family and who really want children.

There is also the issue that I think most men would feel very emasculated knowing that they were infertile and thus incapable of impregnating a woman. This is something that would hit many men to the very core of their being - akin to, say, a woman who desperately wanting a baby miscarrying. It's not really anyone's fault, but you FEEL like a failure.

I only have one vas defrens (congenital - I'm a twin so not so uncommon) so I can empathize there but one was enough. I would have been BITTERLY DISAPPOINTED AND ENRAGED if I was infertile. I hope they both seek counseling. 😭

You got lucky it was one vas deferens lacking and not both like that poor dude. Yes I hope they can eventually come to a resolution and have their own family through other means.

Agreed. I lost out on a kidney too! Plus when I got vasectomy the Dr went on a fishing expedition in my scrotum looking for both - never read the chart that said I was a twin. I was in bed for a week after. 🤬🤬🤬

yeah I felt his pain. I can't imagine building up a future, even investing resources for it, only to have that dream shattered.

I think thst would be very painful snd sad, but there is the option to adopt a newly born baby. I know it's not the same but most likely the closest thing to having your own children

yeah I can't imagine that; getting older as the years pass and missing that experience of contributing your genes, carrying your legacy. Poor dude
