Was he correct? What do you think?

Diogenes was iconic, but whether he was correct depends on how you vibe with his philosophy. He believed in radical simplicity, rejecting social norms, wealth, and even basic politeness to expose hypocrisy. And honestly? He had a point. So much of society is built on status, materialism, and pretending to be something we're not. Diogenes was like, "Nah, I’m good. I’ll live in a barrel and call out your nonsense."
But let’s be real—could everyone live like him? Probably not. Most of us enjoy our creature comforts (hello, soft beds and iced lattes). Plus, total rejection of social norms can make life unnecessarily difficult. But was he right that people chase pointless things and overcomplicate life? Absolutely. So, in a way, Diogenes wasn’t just correct—he was ahead of his time!
He has a point. Here's another thought, our eyes and ears are always open, but our mouths are closed and we need to consciously open them to speak. Perhaps that's nature's way of telling us to think before we speak.
What about my fingers though? I'm no @equal-ty_destroyer but my fingers are always right here, going out of my way not to stereotype lesbians, blacks, Mexicans, or liberals. But, I would think that just because you have fingers does not mean you should finger people or give them the finger.
Diogenes was a snotty nosed, crayon chewing whippersnapper. Everyone has two tongues, the tongues are separate organs separated by a connective tussue of collagen.
@Lowly_Grumper men also have one cock and two balls - to cum twice in every whore, ensure impregnation.
No our best senses and the first to develop are taste and smell! Alas...
When someone else is talking, we should taste and then smell them... to figure out if they are telling the truth, your bacteria will know very quickly. If they are not, twice the ears will only make it twice as bad.
If you don't believe me, check your dog... that's what they do.
That guy never dealt with stock brokers...
No proof but the OPPOSITE those are "first" BEFORE comprehension due to NOT FOR comprehension.
Obviously those without developed taste n smell, died of hunger leaving those who DID develop with the interest to eat.
@strateguy632 spend any time with puppies, kittens or babies? Everything goes in the mouth. I read those sensors are earliest to develo, I believe its the nose sense that comes back first after a brain damage.
But hey... I ain't no Diogenes!
In the literal sense of course he wasn't correct, because if everybody is listening twice as much as talking, who is going to do all the talking they are listening to? :)
But I agree in the sense that many people could do with a bit more listening and a bit less talking.
Answer who: many people with experience will each speak a little while the rest listen to them n talk only a bit.

I think listening more than speaking is a good idea, regardless of the justification or explanation.
Um the same idea of self-restraint and achieving wisdom through silence and deep understanding rather than excessive talk, also appears in the Upanishads (foundational texts of Indian philosophy) "A wise man should restrain his speech and keep his mind steady", the Bhagavad gita and many non-Western philosophers and thinkers, such as Laozi, or Confucius, "a superior man is modest in his speech but exceeds in his actions". I don't get why people will always bring up the Greeks, when there were other equally advanced civilizations in philosophy. Anyway these quotes make a lot of sense, even though they're a bit hard to implement, as we live in a word, where speaking is encouraged
no... but, I guess they didn't have beatbox back then...
No. But Diogenes illustrates that the problems we have today are problems that existed 3,000 years ago. Humans haven't evolved much in thousands of years.
In a lot of circumstances, that would be the way to go.
He is right on target, shame so many didn't get the message!
Yes. He also said “I never met an honest man.” Diogenes was a Cynic.
Diogenes is my favourite philosopher.
He picked up many of my own thoughts.
With regards to certain people who don't listen then he was spot on.😅
Well what’s more important if you think before you speak. But it is very important that you speak up.
Maybe I should read more of this guy's stuff, I do a hell of a lot of yapping
I agreed 👍🏼💯 with this. I know that I have made it a priority to listen intently when someone is speaking to me. I don't interrupt them either.
Apparently Trump's never heard of Diogenes, but YES, YES, YES !!!
Precisely talk 1/3 so listen 2/3. He didn't say only listen... to his students!
Yes, i have heard this before. He is right
Sounds to me like diogenes just liked hearing the sound of his own voice.
Judge Judy says something similar.
Hard to say.
No pun intended...🤪
Depends on the situation.
Yes, I completely agree with Diogenes.
I like that he lived in a barrel.
Yes.
Sometimes
