I am a guest at someone's house and the host drops and ice cube on the kitchen floor. They have no pets and a normal reasonable level of cleanliness. He explains as he picks it up and runs water over it that it's still clean because any surface dirt would have been washed away due to the temperature difference. Multiple AIs backs this up with the usual stupid caveats.

What do you think?

It is reasonable and this question is rhetorical anyway. However, and you know it, you deal with a topic where reason is not the deciding factor. Fearing germs and stuff is emotion based a lot, or tradition & culture based a lot, it's even both.

You're a fool if you're trying to convince anyone using reason when the problem is emotion based. It would be just bad (soft) science applied, doc 😏

That's dumb! I waitressed in highschool and a little bit during college and would see the girls I worked with actually take the time to bend over, pick the ice up, then put it in the glass. Now, you're talking about about someone actually taking the time to pick it up AND rinse it off? Who does that? When I waitressed, I just kicked the cubes under the counter and replaced them. I basically do the same thing at home.

He's technically right. And in my home I'd just grab the escapee and toss it back in my own glass. But I'm used to eating meals in swamps and jungles while covered in sweat and grime, LOL. For a guest, nope! That ice cube gets tossed in the sink and I grab more essentially zero cost ice from the ice maker. I can pretend to be civilized if the need arises.

I'm only doing that if I'm drunk and it's the last fucking ice cube I can use for my whiskey. Otherwise I'm kicking it under the refrigerator or throwing it in the sink and just getting another ice cube because there's hundreds of them in my freezer. Now back in the '80s and '90s when we had the big old ice trays with the big old ice cubes, I would rinse one of those fuckers off and reuse it because we would have to wait for the new ones to freeze.

My ice cube water goes through two separate water filters. I probably got the best fucking ice on the block. If I decide to go get an expensive bottle of booze and drink it on the rocks, my ice is not fucking that up. I usually drink cheap shit, though.

I've eaten an m&m off the forest floor while backpacking after wiping it off. If you're willing, there's no real consequence to reusing the ice cube.

My advice: Not worth it my dude, take out the ice tray and pour water in then put it in freezer. Fixed, no dirty ice at all.
