It's not like tickets are much to go to The Nutcracker Christmas special or something like that. Last time I got dragged to one it was like $20-30 for a ticket. If you can afford a fast food meal these days, you can afford ballet. If you like classical music, that's nice but the people prancing around on stage isn't the most entertaining thing in the world...
There are performances that you really have to pay a good amount of momey for, but thats not more than a concert from a band for example. The average is probably more around a cinema ticket. Not cheap but affordable for people who value it.
Starting ballet yourself is in the price span of other hobbies as well. Do more people from the so called 'upper class epites' value it? Yes probably. Which is weird in my opinion. Dancing including ballet should be for everyone.
Anyone can take ballet lessons. If watching, it is more about where you live and if there are performances in your area than your class.
Anyone can enjoy it. But yea, it seems to lean toward upper class elites. I wouldn't mind seeing an opera, depending on the opera. But I'd feel like an outsider. They'd probably even want me to dress up, which isn't going to happen.

@Nikki1989 Wtf, I didn't say that people have to like it, but that everyone has the opportunity to do it if they choose to.
