Would you ever abandon your cat on the side of the road?

Question

The most heartbreaking part of abandonment isn't the fear. It's the loyalty.

When a cat is left on the side of the road, they don't run into the woods to start a new wild life. They stay.

They sit by the carrier because it smells like you. They watch the road because they trust that you are coming back. They wait through the rain, through the hunger, and through the dark, believing that the person they love would never leave them behind on purpose.

Dumping a pet isn't "setting them free." It is leveraging their loyalty against them.

If you can no longer care for them, please surrender them to a shelter. Give them a fighting chance. Don't make them wait for a car that is never turning around.

Of course this isn’t okay at any means. There was a sad story my niece told me how she gave her dog away to someone who seemed so reassuring to take good care of her dog, but she found out that this person actually left the dog stranded on the road… 😭😭😭 but my niece was luckily still connected to the chip the dog had or something like that for her to find out. She got her dog back safe and sound after it.
People forget that animals has emotions and are just any living beings… these things aren’t okay and can also cause traumas for them. I agreed that it’s better to give them away at shelters or something to take care of them.

That’s how I found my first cat, Pookie. They dropped her off by my parents house and just drove off… smh.

And literally the same way I met my second cat, Chestnut. Someone dropped her off like she was trash. And now she’s my spoiled brat too… the oldest of three of my cats.

Absolutely disgusting that people do this. Though a couple of cats came into my life because of this and became very good friends. When I was young on the farm we became aware a cat was living in the hedges, catching rabbits.

In time he realized there was as much free milk as he could drink at the milking shed so he moved into the feedshed where there also all the mice and rats he could possibly wish to eat.

Finally he realized there were even easier pickings at the homestead and home cooked meals to boot.

He was a great cat. He would even go fetch the cows with me.

When my son was 5I had moved down to California to go to work. He lived in Nevada, so on the weekends, I would go pick him up and 1 day on the way home back to my house. I see this little baby black thing I don't. I didn't know what it was. I saw it way down the road. So I slowed down and I pulled over, and somebody had put a puppy out on highway, 20 in the middle of nowhere. It was a queensland healer so of course , we had to pick it up , and of course , he had to ask his mom if he could keep it , which you got lucky and got to keep it , but I asked him what we should name it , his first name was foul ball. The second name was pupin , and that's what he ended up calling him but I think it's freaking disgusting. When people do that , you see they ever get caught , they should be put in jail , they should be fined and put in jail

No im a dog person, I have a cat because my sister couldnt take it with her when she moved... 🤦‍♂️

My dog acts like he is smarter then me half the time. I would never abandon him. he is the kind of dog if I he got separated from me, away from home, he would find his way back to me, or the place we call home. He has done it before more then once. We go hunting and he will get after something and get away from me. He always comes back. And thats why im a dog person. He chooses me just as much as I do him.

I didn't choose the cat, but I still feed him and take care of him... Mr. Kitty says he likes me more then my sister even if he dont show it. 🙂

My pets are a part of my family. I would never leave them anywhere that they would have to fend for themselves. I would go into a burning building to save them.

If i saw someone abandoning an animal i would first take the animal then tie up the individual and leave them in the woods

No I wouldn't ever do this. This makes me sick and so sad. People are such idiots that they can't just bring them to a shelter. Also people don't understand cats like they think they do when they assume their completely independent. If you raised a kitten you understand this.

No, never. Our cat was a stray. Someone dumped her when she got pregnant and she ended up moving in with us. She's now my parents' cat and they love her to bits. Especially mum.

been volunteering for catch, rescue and shelter, foster, find homes since 2019... on and off...  because sometimes it just breaks my heart, and it takes some time to heal... and go back
