Why do cowboys always tuck their shirts into their jeans?

Is it just to show off their big belt buckles, or is it for practicality for the work or rodeos that they do and participate in that they tuck them into their Wranglers or other jeans?

It's the culture. Most "cowboys" come from rural area that a very Christian and the good old wholesome morals and values are still the most important thing. With that, looking your best which means tucking in your shirt became part of the style. From then it's just habit and a look that goes together. Nowadays, most people just do it because of everything I said lol it's just a normal habit.

Just a guess, maybe It keeps the shirt tighter so it's not loose on the body and likely to get caught in something. It is a cleaner, less casual look in general so maybe that's all there is to it.

They're worried that their shirttails will get and the way of their six guns if they have to make a quick draw, and they'll look foolsih getting shot because their shirtail gets caught in the trgger guard of their shootin' iron, podner.
