How different kinds of music tastes can affect a relationship!

So I'm back again and this time my spelling will be immaculate! I noticed on the last myTake I posted I made some spelling Boo Boos.

So here we go! Today's topic is how differing music tastes can affect a relationship!

First we will cover music genres that commonly affect things!

1: "Rap music is all drugs, liquor, cursing, and prostitution!"

This can't be more bias! My profile picture? That's me in my studio recording a rap. The bad after taste the radio gave these people is real! Rap, in a nut shell, is extensive slam poetry to a beat. That's the most basic explanation I can give. It's an outlet where people can use multi syllable rhymes to touch on hot button topics like celebrities, politics, third world countries, racism, sexism and all manner of things! If you don't like rap? You've been listening to too much Sirius XM. Explore indie artists! Look into "Texas Dro" "Watsky" "Iniquity Rhymes" "BrySi" "JT Machinima" "DEFMATCH" and "Emcee NoRad"

2: Metal and Hard rock is just noise!

Though my opinion of this genre is negative it takes an extreme amount of skill and self control to write screamy music. Not to mention sing it! It's called "Head Voice" trying to do it for long periods of time without the proper vocal training and vocal warm up can damage your throat, voice box, and vocal cords. Give the metal heads a break! :-)

3: Country is all about beer and your other half cheating!

Now I don't like country but there's a certain amount of heart and soul that goes into making these songs. Instead of searching for a cheesy catch chorus try listening closely to the lyrics.

4: Dubstep/Electro/Dance is just senseless noise that takes no talent to make!

WRONG! SO VERY WRONG! I used to share this opinion. Then I was at a open Mic and a DJ stepped up and played a Dubstep track. I told him my opinion and he said "Can you do better?" Let's just say I made a fool of myself. In public. I'd rather go into more detail.

So those are the top 4 common genres that cause problems. I'm sure we have all fought with our partner about what radio station to listen to. So here is why. Human beings are naturally dominating creatures who are always very opinionated. So what happens when someone rivals that opinion? Anger. Anger happens. So why does music almost always start and argument? Because everyone. And I mean everyone has an opinion. I've come to appreciate all forms of talent. I still have my opinions though. So when two people don't have the same opinion they argue. But neither wants to look into the other opinion because theirs is right (to them). If people would calm down and see other people's opinions from a logical stance your life would be a lot better.

actualy my boyfriend is into rap

he also likes other kinds of music that i listen to, lol
So we don't realy have much of a problem with it

I kind of like all types of music and the ones that I don't like, I always try and make an effort by choosing to listen what people might call the best examples of a genre I am iffy about, to try and see why other people might like it

This strategy hasn't disapointed me until today

I can say I can listen to all types of music and enjoy it if people give me a quality example to listen to.

I have listened to some of the rap music that my boyfriend likes, in particular, and my respect for rap now has increased. I can see the role it has in music, other than just saying: rap has no melody (like I once used to say).

1) I don't care about the lyrics, most rap sounds too depressing and shitty or something. I've noticed I only like listening to Eminem and Tupac. There's just something off about lots of rap.

2) You forgot to mention that metal and hard rock are not all "screamy". This alone makes me believe you have pretty much no authority talking about anything that has to do with different genres of music. Metal might be the most vast genre of music with a shit ton of distinct subgenres. You really have to listen to a lot of it to know how diverse it is in every aspect.

3) It all sounds way too similar. Yes, I've tried listening to it, and some of my friends have liked it, but I seriously can't find how most songs are significantly different.

As for how I was talking about Metal/Rock I was addressing the screamy side of it because it poses the most problems. I wasn't trying to be judgmental, close minded, or ignorant. If I came off that way I apologize.

1) Rap music can be deep and meaningful, it can be light and funny, if can be plain retarded but catchy. There's all sorts of things in rap, all sorts of different vibes. I like it all, for different moments and moods.

2) It sounds like that from the outside. Just like someone listening to progressive house would say it's all the same. It's not though, there's a wide range of styles, I'm not as big a fan of Metal and Hard Rock as I am of Rap, but I have a lot of variety in my limited collection and I like everything I've got.

3) I have almost zero experience with country music, so I have no idea. I do like a few songs here and there though. But I get the feeling that's what the vibe is supposed to be like, somewhat melancholic or very upbeat.

4) Yes there are very many talentless producers. This is probably my favorite genre, and a lot of stuff sounds exactly the same.
Unlike metal or country, you really need some good speakers to appreciate the finer distinctions in this genre of music. A bit like rap music you can miss out on a quite a bit of musicality if your speakers can't play you the full bassline in the beat. Electronic music has so many genres and subsets, it's hard to keep track. I find a lot of it house, progressive house and some trance to be very like classical in structure. Dubstep is something else. Drum'n'bass is different again. House and electro you hear in festivals is more like fistbumping and jumping around material. It's all different, different vibes that bring out different emotions.

You didn't mention classical, jazz, reggae, pop music etc... Obviously you can't cover everything.

As for your point of how it can affect relationships, well I think it's somewhat of a shallow understanding.
First yeah you can be stuck with someone who's like "egh rap music is shit" or "egh electro is the same crap over and over".
You could get a more mature, open minded partner in the first place, who's willing to explore or at least not insult your taste in music. If someone really likes a genre of music, who are you to tell them objectively that their taste is bad. It's rude, offensive. They can like different things, but you can be open about it. And you can be open about other people not liking what you like too.
For me, it's easy. I love music. Period. So I can always relate.

But it goes deeper than that. music tells you something about someone's personality and values. If your tastes are too far apart, there may be a deeper mismatch...

Not enough indie artists are allowed on the radio anymore. Rap stations where I live are all just porn aimed at black listeners.

They murdered the only indie station in my area (94.1) and replaced it with a really awful country station. In spite the fact that there are already two prominent country stations. (98.1 and 100.7) Lansing wants to be Nashville, apparently.

The lite rock station (99.1) has a few indie songs, but it's mostly Celine Dion-type elevator music. The "we play everything" station (101.7) mostly plays just 80s hits.

I don't think there is a dubstep station, but it'd beat the top 40 pop station (97.5), which may as well be The Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Sugar-Coated Satan Worship, and Sugar-Coated Porn for 12-Year-Old White Girls Station.

Luckily for me I listen to almost any kind of music. Just the way I grew up. Reggae, world, deep house, rap, rock, African, kizomba, Arabic. Pop, classic, honestly my list is endless. 😂😂 Usually I'll just listen and put on the type of music my partner likes because I generally don't have much of a problem with it. And then when I wanna listen to the music in currently into, I'll do so by myself.
However, I do still prefer the indie side of music. I like seeing good new artists progress.

I used to think same about rap music being bleh until a friend send me some real stuff. I started to actually like it. Still new.

I am not into metal/sounds. I tried listening to it but didn't like it much.

Not into country music either but I listened to one that was about love actually. It was good.❤
