Halfway through the 57th annual Grammy ceremony on Sunday, President Barack Obama took the time to speak on domestic violence via the video below. He spoke about violence against women and girls, calling on artists to use their power to change public attitudes. He cited the disturbing statistics showing that one out of every five women have been victims of rape or attempted rape, and one out of every four women have dealt with some form of domestic violence.

After President Barack Obama's video appearance on the show, domestic violence advocate, Brooke Axtell took to the Grammy stage to deliver a spoken word piece about her own experiences. She explained how her life was saved, when she sought help at a domestic violence center. She called on victims to overcome their fears.

Following her moving words, Katy Perry followed her with a performance of "By the Grace of God."

Both Rihanna and Chris Brown were in the audience when Brooke Axtell spoke about her experiences. Brown continues to face legal troubles since beating Rihanna before the 2009 Grammy Awards.

It is important to address issues like this before such large audiences and on such big platforms. How do you think artists can change the public's attitudes on dometic violence? What are your thoughts on domestic violence? Do you know someone who has been affected by a form of violence? Do you have advice for someone who is a survivor of domestic violence?
