If he said something like "I don't want anyone else for the rest of my life" then I'd say forever, but since it's just "the foreseeable future"... you can't foresee forever, but you can probably plan in advance at least a few months, maybe even a few years.

So I'd say long term.

But that doesn't mean it won't evolve into forever!

They mean that assuming thing stay as they are, they can envision continuing to date you. it's a non-committal way of saying " this is a good relationship, I might stay in it".
