You were taught wrong! Let me guess: whoever told you this is a drama queen who seeks out conflict in relationships and turns them into perpetual fights.
It's common, maybe even normal, to be jealous when a guy's girlfriend gets attention from other men or more seriously, gives attention to other men. But different people handle that jealousy very differently. Some get quiet, some let it pass, some throw tantrums, some pick fights... you get the idea. Your boyfriend might not be upset because he trusts you, or he might be quietly seething but you don't notice because making an effort to control his behavior and act like a gentleman.
The only way to know is to ask him. But yeah, you're right - it doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't care. I get jealous when other guys flirt with my girlfriend but I can keep my cool about it because I trust her and I think she deserves a boyfriend who's not an angry, controlling asshole. I try :)
If the guy says he's not the jealous type that doesn't mean anything, if he shows that he isn't the jealous type then you know for sure. It can mean either way he cares or doesn't but he can just be a confident guy who trust girls. 90% of guys get jealous...i always tell my girlfriends to hang out with guy friends, go to the club with girls! I like an independent girl.

oh no I use to think I wasn't a jelous type but I soon discovered I am
but not like other guys
he cares and he is pbly saying that because he thinks that girls don't like guys that are really jelous
dont push it he cares
yea if he seems you giving more attention to other guys run up to him and show you care for him more hug him kiss him somthing special infront of the other guys it will reassure him
It just means that he is willing to trust you, don't go around trying to make him jealous.
