You know for a fact a lot of girls do this? This is disturbing. You guys are incapable of trust. If you are considering resoring to deception, the relationahip isn't working. The honesty and thus trust can't be established. Every time you do this it's like pulling a block from a Jenga tower. One step closer to eventual collapse. You should be able to find out the truth if you just ask him. If he clams up or deflects, he's either not willing to disclose the truth or hiding something. Either way, he's not holding up his end of the bargain and willing to work through the problem with you.

Then tell him directly you want to end things. If he's lying, he'll probably lie some more and stick to his story. If he is somehow miraculously telling the truth, he should have no problem coming clean right then and there. I'm sure he'd understand your reaction if he truly cared for you and had a legitimate reason for concealment of whatever he is doing. I wouldn't have a problem with a girl going through every corner of my phone. You'd actually probably voluntarily refuse to finish.
