you need to take the lead and break the rules; i would literally avoid underclassmen females because i didn't want to "take advantage" and more or less wanted to be the one in their position (i would chase upperclassmen females, and catch some too)

But for me, I'd do something simple but cute to get their attention without being too obvious you want to be noticed.
For example, add an unique or interesting comment to something they posted to show them you're interested in them.
