Its obviously natural to some people, considering people do it.
You can be attracted to others without wanting to betray your partner for them.
Many species are mono or poly, because one way are better to raising their young. Humans needs parents from contraception to 18~21 and mono works best for long term teamwork.
You're comparing two different ideas here. That we are monogamous to raise children, and that children take time to mature. In nature, without civilization, children would be on their own at about 13 (puberty). Even as recently as a few decades ago, it was normal for men to take a bride in their teens.
Raising children also doesn't require monogamy, just safety. Look at our closest relatives in the animal kingdom, apes are very polygamous and raise plenty of young.
That said, I don't disagree that we are likely moving to a more monogamous lifestyle, and have been for centuries, but I don't think that the reasons you mentioned are really why.
You mean conception. Lol
Apes climb trees, find fruit and protect their territory. A kid only needs to hold on and stay close to survive. Human babies needs intense 24 hour care for months and then school, housing, healthcare and feeding for 18 years, since you legally have to provide. Worst case for a polygamous person is no contact with lots kid and kidsupport. Polygamy is natural and perfectly fine for humans too.
Monogamy is natural
What's unnatural is screwing around and having sterile transient sexual relationships
#NoContraception #StopHavingSexOutOfWedlock
You're against contraception?
@Jamie05rhs Yes I am
Never used it
Never will
I encouraged all my past girlfriends to stop using birth control
Interesting. I have heard others who ascribe to that view. Most of them are Catholic. I'm okay with birth control, though, personally.
@Jamie05rhs Yeah, for Catholics it used to be that way.
I think contraceptives encourage hook up culture. It makes people less responsible when it comes to sex.
I understand its utility, i dont expect anyone to conform to Catholic ideas, except Catholics
Okay.
I take birth control pills and I’ve been in a monogamous relationship for 4 years. I think you’re a bit off in your logic there.
I truthfully believe that this relies strongly on the person themselves. Of course you can find someone that is everything you'll ever need... But that does not mean that everybody will and some people may require more than one person but that is not everybody and thus I think they both are natural and unnatural life works for each of us in separate pieces not altogether
Highly individual, for some individuals its natural for others it isn't.
In nature it depends on the species so it does not seem to be universally natural or unnatural.
Monogamy is unnatural. A man must have at least two wives to take care children and home. Only one woman cannot satisfy a man sexually because she has periods and she gets pregnant so men usually cheat. Instead of cheating polygamy is more reasonable.
No being faithful to one person is possible, it’s easy when you’re not selfish. Since monogamy is unnatural, is it okay if your wives would cheat to compensate for their emotional needs not being met when you’re off with whoever?
@CeciliaMaria multiple husbands are unacceptable for me. Don't ask why. It is against the nature.
Try sex when she has her period, You will love it, women get very horney when having their periods.
@Badballie you are disgusting
Why? no need for condoms.
No one wife at a time is enough, one drives most men crazy, two you will have to go to an asylum, for the insane. The jealousy and bitching all the time, no no rather be on my own.
Scientifically, no. It's a primitive tick to procreate and spread.
Morally/religiously, yes. It's the standard for society and one big factor for a successful relationship.
It boils down to choice and self control.
It depends on the individuals personal views/beliefs.
What are your views?
Monogamy is natural when you meet the right person. You see, many people may think they want short term relationship after short term relationship, but that has the potential to only end in disappointment.
Eventually most people get to an age where they want to settle down and be loyal to one person. Jumping from one person to the next seems unhealthy to me and you might never be happy.
The way I see it is...
If if I ever met someone I really liked and things seem to be going great, I'm not just going to throw it all away. Constantly wondering if there's something better out there is just a waste of mental energy.
I agree
Same.
Monogamy is natural, but today’s society has become lazy and unwilling to put in the work a committed relationship requires. We are spoiled by instant gratification
Those studies are coming from the same place that "studies" suggesting you shoot your kids up with poison to block puberty come from. Cultural Marxists.
It's natural cause it's exists among lots of animals (Eagles, Salamanders, Swans, Beavers, Owls, Gibbons, Cranes, Seahorses, Emperor Penguins, Skink Lizards, Vultures, Voles, Albatrosses, Angelfish etc).
I believe that for Europeans monogamy is the natural state.
For other races, I do not know.
One special woman to love was all that I wanted when I tried to court women.
That sounds very racist i am half European half indian seriously
I believe it is for some people and not for others. Human society has always had a variety of relationship styles.
Wow!!!
Why "wow"?
Cause I think that excuse people use to sleep around monogamy I'd DEFINITELY natural it is definitely not meant for your as a man to run up in a thousand women in your lifetime not is it meant for a woman to. have a thousand dudes run up in them in there life time and whoever thinks that's the way it was meant to be is crazy asf
Who said 1000?
Well you guys say it not natural to be monogamous so it's as many as you want right. People never learn we see post on here where there people are having this freelance sex and it gets them in trouble all the time. Then right behind it you see these post almost encouraging people to sleep around. It's crazy but it your life live it how you see fit
I didn't say it's not natural to be monogamous.
I think humans have had a variety of relationship styles, always have. Monogamy is great for some people.
Okay I think monogamy is what everyone should strive for
Why?
Lol I can't believe you even have to ask why. Why would you want to sleep around honestly what's the take away from that heartache disease unplanned pregnancy single parents take your pic
Heartache happens in different ways to everyone alive. The rest is avoidable. I am asking you to affirmatively justify total monogamy as the only good way to conduct one's sex life.
What do you mean unavoidable I have had any of that and I'm 30
That doesn't sound as positive as you think it does. And you also dodged my question.
it's possible to be faithful to 1 person just depends on a person's morals most good people are faithful but it's a small percent that make the rest of both sexes look bad
I would say a mix of both, which basically means unnatural. It's natural in terms of raising a family; it's not natural in terms of sex/sexual desire/physical attraction.
It wouldn’t suit anyone to not be managamous in a serious relationship. This is why guys become so controlling sometimes, because they know their woman could get laid far more quicker and often than he could if they both were polyamorous.
I desire only my hubby and don't care if it's natural or not.
Since there were countless societies without it, by definition unnatural. However caring for your children is natural, and wanting emotional attachment too. But this monogamous family thing, objectively no
So, Andrew, you don't care who your father was?
What does that have to do with the conversation? My personal opinion has nothing to do with natural or unnatural. Natural means that it is pre arranged in ALL human societies to have only one partner. The fact that there is at least one society without it, makes it unnatural by definition of the word "natural". (in fact the majority aren't fully monogamous)
It has nothing to do with what I prefer or what I care about. Cause I am not ALL humans, and I am not from all societies in all times.
Natural, is not what your religion or culture currently prefers. It is what is pre set in all humans. Therefore one society existing without monogamy makes it unnatural by definition.
(However, to address your rhetorical question directly, non monogamy has also nothing to do with not having parents, or not knowing who your father is. It just means that people have sex with multiple partners throughout their life. You still have families and parenting etc.)
If you want kids monogamy is the only way to go or if you have emotional attachment to someone.
I wouldn't call it natural per se. Mankind can be both. But I consider monogamy one of the biggest achievements leading humanity into civlisation.
We shouldn’t compare our lives to animals. Men would be fighting with other males to the death over the females. Choosing to be Monogamous or Polygamous is solely dependant on the person
it's relatively unnatural. in nature we would be monogamous for the time it takes to raise a child till it can survive alone and that's it.
What does that even mean? Monogamy and polygamy are both naturally occuring things.
I don't think monogamy is unnatural. I also don't think non-monogamy is unnatural. Both are found in other species. I think some people are wired for monogamy and others aren't.
It is unnatural in our primitive lower brain instinct state but natural in our evolved higher intelligence social, societal family based state.
My opinion is you can if it's the right person a big issue is people aren't, willing to do new things too spice it up
Plenty natural. Lots of animals in nature mate for life...
Monogamy wasn't really a thing until religion came along.
There are people that aren’t remotely religious that still very much want monogamous relationships.
Okay, that's great, but that's not what I said.
Well then what you said had absolutely nothing to do with my post and it’s irrelevant.
Well, it actually has everything to do with your post, but you are failing to understand what I said.
Blah blah...
can't believe everything everyone says in these studies.
Most people are jealous and territorial. They need monogamy.
Yes. Even many animals are monogamous. Then there are of course the people who doesn't have feelings only selfish desires.
It's natural up to a certain period of time, but then you have to work at it. It's the 'seven year itch', some biologists have argued!
I think it depends on the person but I think pairing for Life is an unrealistic expectation. You change dramatically as you age. You wants and needs change too.
Personally, I think it's natural... But it could go both ways, depending on who you are.
Yeah it's natural and surely i can love and stay with one woman only...
Natural. Those who doesn't think so are just thots who aren't capable of being a faithful and loyal partner.
Natural for some people, and unnatural for others. Who cares if some people want to be monogamous and others want to be polyamorous? Freedom of choice is what we should be striving for.
Natural, that's why studies show the happiest people are the ones in monogamous relationships.
I don't believe it has a "thing" to do with nature... it's a learned experience.
I'd say it's natural at least when it comes to parenting and raising children.
I don't think either is unnatural. But I do think polygamy undermines the value of the many.
I lean towards natural but it is a mixture of both. Some people just have a tendency to like more than 1 person in their relationships.
it's not natural for guys anyway. biologically speaking after sex a woman is pregnant and is going to have morning sickness and vomit for 9 months while the guy can just walk around and impregnate other women.
Some species of bird and reptiles do it too, monogamy is very natural.
Monogamy is natural but so is men trying to have side pieces... if that makes sense.
Monogamy exists in nature, so is natural, not a human invention.
Monogamy is natural, to sustain it, with the same partner until the day you die, is unlikely.
Unnatural. That's why we have marriage. To force people to be monogamous. Even that isn't working.
my parent have been together 55 years. They got married right out of high school. People can be a couple forever if they both work at it.
I believe monogamy is natural because once you either choose to date or marry someone that person deserves your full attention
Neither and both. Life endures and it doesn't care about our preferences. People have drives for both built into them.
I feel that its unnatural geneticly but that dosnt mean it won't works for people... It just takes constant hard work like all relationships do
If monogamy were natural, cheating wouldn't be an issue.
It is natural because it's how humans were designed. People are at their best with their second half
I say this because you'll work things out and I'm one of those hopeless romantic type of guy
that's not natural... man made for there own selfish pleasure
Natural for good people. Unnatural for sluts and studs.
100% not natural.
Only guys and sluts think this
Hahaha. Guys are sluts. Guys love sluts. 7.4 billion people. The system works too well.
Neither, it's just correct.
