I used to believe it was natural. Then in my mid 20s iI saw how men cheat on Good women with both sexes. I caught bu casually boyfriend in my late 20s in the Male bathroom stale getting his dick sucked by a guy. I thought he was straight!! My ex who I was with for a few years was sleeping with his damn mother. So no my past has shown me that we are not monogamous. I've also seen women cheat, I saw a girl at a bar go out to a guys car hook up and then come back to her husband. People are terrified of commitment and being vulnerable. I'm starting to believe its easier to be single. FOREVER!!!
It's difficult to say, and it can be very difficult to compare humans to other animals in this sense. In nature monogamy occurs in very few species, however the species it does show up in are generally more intelligent, so it could be reasoned that humans fit that characteristic that monogamy may be natural for us. Regardless of our nature, monogamy has been beneficial for civilization, it reduces the spread of diseases, creates a stable family structure for children to be raised in, and prevents the population from increasing faster than food production
It's very natural. The higher intelligence that a species has, the pickier and more selective they become commonly. Not just in terms of number but also on what qualities. Only because people let their temptations rule over then doesn't mean that it's natural.
Monogamy is not unnatural, it's SUPERNATURAL. It requires two people to be the best that they can be, by ignoring their natural selfish tendencies to reach a level of love only experienced by a few. It's the way God intended, and for good reason. True love, agape, will always be infinitely more fulfilling than any number of sexual partners.
Our instinct is to be polygamous, but in the real world this has many downsides - i. e. single-parent households with financial and other related problems.
Socially we have evolved to become monogamous to reduce the incidence of this problem. People who are better at suppressing their natural instinct to be polygamous have more successful children, who presumably have the same talent.
I believe successful monogamy is possible and a good thing, and believe I have it now. The question of natural is a strange one. Some animals are naturally monogamous, it is hard to determine for prehistoric humans, probably we were not but we also didn't wear clothes, drive cars and listen to Ariana Grande on Spotify, so what does natural even mean in regards to the human race. It's achievable and I think the purest form of love so it is what I am pursuing.
Monogamy makes sense from a woman's point of view, since she can only have 1 child by 1 man at a time.
But a man can have as many children as women he bangs. Though, where monogamy makes sense is where children take a long time to mature and there's no point in having 10 children by 10 women if they're all going to die.
Who is going to pay all that child support, if that's your attitude you had better go out and earn millions of dollars, you will be to busy paying all this child support to have SEX. lol lol
Yes and no. Back in the day it was survival of the fittest and men were to plant their seed. That doesn’t mean he had no obligation to the mothers of his offspring and who knows how many mothers but i think there’s a basic longing in most of us to have one dependable partner for a lifetime. Unfortunately we often do not chose well or we give up too easily when the road gets rough. But just like the many mammals that breed with one mate for life I don’t think it’s that unnatural
Yes and no. I think it's natural on a mental level, like we get to know someone and we get emotionally bonded to that person. On a biological level I don't think we are monogamous no. But of course there's that grey area because humans in general are complex brings and we have preferences and unique tendencies. Some couples can sleep with other people but be emotionally bonded to each other. Other couples are purely monogamous. It all depends.
As a polyamarous person, I think that both polyamory and monogamy are natural. There are people that either works for, and there are people that are only happy with one or the other. Both relationship styles have the potential to lead to a happy, healthy, and long term relationship. If one doesn't seem to work for you, try another! And remember that there are many many ways to practice polyamory. Make sure you and any partner you have are very clear on what is and isn't okay. Polyamory - whatever way you choose to practice it - requires a lot of clear communication.
Monogamy is biologically natural for people, and was reinforced by environmental conditions for 100,000 years, and Societal norms for 5000+ years. It is only recently that we have been practicing serial monogamy and casual sex, which have lead to widespread mental illness, marital dissatisfaction, and disease.
I don’t really care what other people say or what studies are “proving,” monogamy is natural for me and it is the only option for me. I fully believe I could commit to one person for the entirety of my life and in fact that’s my ultimate romantic goal.
Everyone wants more. In this aspect is monogamy unnatural. On the other hand we have brains so we can predict many things. Even if I have a desire for another girl (what is more or less an instinct) I know if I go this way, it's very likely that I lose my current partner. Hence it's consideration "Is it worth or isn't it?" On emotional level is monogamy unnatural, but rational is monogamy the best option.
I think it depends. Not everyone is designed for monogamy, the same way that many people wouldn't be comfortable with a polyamorous or open relationship. It takes knowing yourself to decide whether or not you'd be happy forming a lifelong commitment to someone. Seeing monogamy as natural or unnatural is a subjective view. While some people prefer multiple partners others like to stick to just one.
I don’t think monogamy it’s natural or unnatural, I think it’s natural to want to have sex.
Like anything in life, however, it’s a behavior that can be restricted by force of will. There are many reasons to decide to be monogamous, and there are reasons not to be. It depends on what’s important to you and how important it is.
Neither both are natural for some we would need another social construct for polygamy to work. We are all capable of loving multiple people it's the social conflict that causes relationships issues. Having one working relationship can be tough enough, multiple would require a miracle unless we losen or expectations drastically.
technically if we look at humans and how animalistic our origins are, Monogamy isn't as natural as we originally were as early humans, and much of the whole 1 partner lifestyle only came about as we became more civilised
so from that it isn't natural, however to some does feel natural... and for modern civilised world it is both and neither... as it depends on each person and how they feel about things during relationships
Monogamy is natural because most people want it.. We live in a society that tells is what we want and that we should want to look, and be a certain way.. And people latch onto that, and end up bein dissatisfied with they have.. Not to mention a lot of people marry and date the wrong people for the wrong reasons.. Definitely not for love..
I believe that it's natural for humans to create chaos, be greatly selfish, and use intelligence to take advantage over other humans and other species while being fully aware of their actions because their mindset tells them that it's okay to do this. We have free-will until we breathe our last breath.
I believe human monogamy is unnatural, but also I believe human monogamy is a miracle as well as Jesus christ teachings/philosophies were a miracle and existing on a planet is a miracle.

This is a great answer.
@Jamie05rhs Thank you sir.
Depends on what you mean by "natural".

There's more fact in your comment @Freiburger
It is natural but so is polygamy.
Polygamy is natural, by default, because that maximizes genetic diversity.
However, monogamy, which for males kicks in when in true deep love, is evolved because it helps maximize the probability of offspring survival.
I believe successful monogamy is possible and a good thing, and believe I have it now. The question of natural is a strange one.
