Absolutely not, it's mostly caused by dissatisfaction in the relationship

Oh I definitely agree with that but it happens. I was married to someone who cheated whenever she would start doing drugs again. I've never touched the stuff so I dont personally know what it does to you but she was taking large doses of xanax and she explained it as taking the little guy off your shoulder that tells you something is a bad idea.

it happens but the problem here is we DISAGREE on the WHY. It does not happen because of alcohol or drugs... that is BS... it happens because they choose it sober... then abuse alcohol or drugs to cover it up. it's been that way forever nobody has been around to explain it you and I feel bad for that but now you know.

It has never happened to me. If it ever did I will not assume mental illness. If the person wants to make the case for mental illness, they certainly can but they will be dealing with a a skeptic.

I should say that it is definitely the case in some instances. There are people with sexual compulsion that they cannot stop from acting on. In some cases they may masturbate in public, others they will find random people to have sex with. Further, if you classify addiction as a mental disorder, then you have to also classify some cases of hypersexuality as a mental disorder as well. For the rest of cheaters, it's definitely possible that there is a component of mental instability (depression, anxiety, PTSD can all cause people to act out sexually).

@jessi462 Girls are biologically wired to sleep around in order to find the most "Alpha" male, as he will produce the best offspring. This applies to cheating because girls will often only date the best guy they could get, but if a better guy came along, she'd be pressed to cheat. That's why attractive women actually cheat less, as when they date a guy, he's like the only one good enough for them.

Is your source from a document about chimpanzees? We are human, boy. We have brains to think what are best for us. We have an ability to analyze what could be a outcome if we choose to do something, esp. things that obviously unacceptable. We know how to control our behaviors.
