Well the first option you lose no one no matter what and there's nothing to ease your pain knowing that you couldn't do anything to stop it which is pretty bad. The second option you lose one but save another can be viewed as better since even though you lose a loved one you can feel a bit better knowing you saved another which could lessen your guilt as the person you saved will be grateful to you while with the first option somebody died anyway so you feel bad without the cushion of the second option to soothe the pain. However it could also be seen that with the first option its just one person which may be better than one person dying and another nearly dying so it can be interpreted many ways. I'll go with the first option as more heart wrenching overall however!

I go with the second option. I am already losing a loved one and that's a guilt which sounds very heavy. I don't want to have any more guilt of having to choose which life should I let go of.

I always thought about this.. I saw a movie when I was a child and the dad chose—who I think was his daughter’s girlfriend, over his own daughter, because his daughter was kinda psychotic and evil. He struggled to decide... I wish I knew the name of that movie.

I think they’re equally painful in different ways.

Losing someone instantly with no warning, that’s me falling to my knees and going in deep depressive mode, maybe even some guilt for not being in that persons life more or calling back or making amends.

Choosing one over another, being present in that moment, will come attached with not only pain, but a lot more guilt, and possibly traumatized.

To chose. I would never want to ever have to make that choice. Losing a loved one is devastating in itself but comfort can eventually be found in not having any control over what happened. Knowing you could've saved a loved one but chose to save another would cause so much guilt and shame. Enough so to crush you. You will always have to live with the fact that you could have done something. You would feel as if you actually killed them. Tbh this hits a little too close to home for me. I hope nobody ever has to feel that kind of guilt.

I wouldn't either. The person being saved.. I wonder if they would feel a bit guilty also.

The option will always be the 2nd one.

with the first, they are gone, you did not have a you get the shock etc but it’s simply shock and grief.

with the 2nd you choose and get both shock and grief but also guilt in huge measures and the feeling people are judging your choice for ever.

I'd say the latter, you'll always have to deal with the guilt of it being your decision. In the former at least you have the ease of knowing there was nothing you could do

I would say having to choose because you could feel guilty of not being able to save both, of betraying that loved one you did not choose.
