Is my husband being ridiculous by trying control what shoes I wear to work?

I was a stay home wife/mom for many years. I enjoyed every minute of it. My husband lost his job last spring and hasn’t found anything yet. I had to go back to work. I found a job as a car sales person with a plush car company. I went out and purchased well tailored dresses and skirt suits; very classy looking. I am very short at 4’11”. I bought 4 pair of high heels with 5 inch stilettos heels. I knew they would be uncomfortable at first but I would get used to it. When my husband saw what type of shoes I bought he had a fit. He referred to them as FM pumps and stripper shoes. He doesn’t want me to wear them because I’d be sending out the “wrong message”, plus I’d be one of three women working there with about 25 guys. I have never seen him so jealous in 22 years of marriage. I’m in my 3rd week at the job and doing well. I do get a lot of compliments about my heels but nothing inappropriate. Guys, how would you feel if you saw your wife/girlfriend going to work everyday in 5 inch heels? Girls, would you be upset if your husband/boyfriend wanted to control what you wear?

This is uncanny, I posted the question yesterday and then today I was called into the manager's office. He had one of switch-board operators in there as well. He told me my shoes were totally inappropriate for the business they were running and I had to wear lower heels, preferably a little thicker too! I was shocked. I felt like a whore and I left work and drove home in tears. I told my husband and he was gracious about it and didn't say, "I told you so." He's agreed to take my shopping tonigh
