+1 yYou should have to put any first if your signficant other is making you chose between the two run for the hills its not a healthy relationship abd it will only get worse!!
Now if its just an activity they both want to do with same time and same day... see if you can combine them like girls wanna go shopping and your man wants to see a movie.. Id first ask my man if we can go to the late show instead of the afternoon show. Let him know that the girls wanted to go shopping and I rather go with them first then come watch it with you.. if he had to go to work so late show was out of the question.. and the girls couldnt go shopping at another time id think about which one id rather do and be honest with the other which would be id love to go but I have other plans.. if I get too stressed about situations I cancel both and stay home..
I am smart about what I do to not put unnecessary thoughts lets say one of my guy friends wants to go for a late night drive.. I say I can't (even tho I could) from experience I know nothing good happens at night.. things are more likely to go inappropriate so I told myself if I go out with my guy friends im home by 8 and girl friends home by 9.. my man has all day access if he wanted to come hang out with my girl or guy friends he could... I have no issues with that!! Actually encourage that.. relationships take trust in your partner if you dont have that you have nothing unless an open relationship is what you two decided then hats off to ya I couldnt do it and I wouldn't want too! I dont want to share him or be shared! Its not a popular opinion today most people view you selfish but I know im not.. either is he!! We are just two old souls im thankful that found each other!10 Reply

It says a lot about someone's loyalty when they put a girlfriend/boyfriend first over their friends. The way I see it is if a guy expects me to always put him first over my friends then he doesn't value friendship. How can I expect him to value our friendship then? Because to me friendship should be part of the foundation in a relationship.

+1 yThis is one of those situations people should never put others in. I was one asked if people should put their spouse before their kids or kids before spouse. The thing is no one should be trying to force someone to choose. If I feel that someone is trying to make me pick them over someone else, that is a automatic last place.
I don't like situations, hypothetical or not... like the if your house is on fire and you could only rescue one person, would it be your spouse or your child. After all you can have another child, well technically you could have another spouse too... so.
In regards to putting your friends or girlfriend/boyfriend first... they should be equal.40 Reply

In the case a girlfriend wants to do something on the same time you booked another event with your friends. You stick with your plan with your friends and she needs to find another opening. Same goes the other way around. So it's order of decision. You need to be reliable.
Unless you are in a burning building next to a unconscious friend and your girlfriend and you have to choose who you care out first. But seriously how likely is that to happen?00 Reply

+1 yIt depends on the friend. If it’s a best friend of 16 years who loves and respects me and loves and respects my family than I chose the friend. If it is a friend I argue with who doesn’t care about my feelings or does not offer me encouragement I choose the boyfriend.

+1 yWell it depends on the situation. If my boyfriend wants to hang out but my friend is having a rough time I'm gonna go see my friend and Vice versa.
If I'm planning on hanging with friends again but my boyfriend tells me he feels like we haven't hung out much then I will hang with him instead or invite him along because my friends and boyfriend get along well as they should.20 Reply
+1 yI've known my friends between 12 and 7 years. My longest relationship was 11 months. Sorry, but if it comes down to it, I'm gonna chose my friends. I will do everything I can not to come to a situation like that, but if it happens, I'm going to be loyal to the people who have had my back the longest

+1 yDepends on the situation.
If my friend is in crisis but I promised my man we'd go to a movie, I'm gonna go to my friend's aid over him. Hopefully, I'd be in a relationship with someone who would understand my decision.
If my man just lost his mom and my friend wants me to go to her birthday party, I'm going to choose him.
I hate this "one or the other" loyalty mentality. It's toxic.10 Reply465 opinions shared on Relationships topic. It really sucks because your friends have likely been your friends for a longer period of time, and they may feel cast aside, but I would put my girlfriend/boyfriend first. Though I also only date people over developed decently strong feelings for I don't date casually so that may be why.
That being said, it's still very important to make time for your friends.10 ReplyEqual. You can't tell your friends to take a backseat every single time you are in a relationship. If things are more serious, it's a domestic, long term relationship, and they are going to be your spouse, they should absolutely be your priority.

+1 yIf you are engaged, then fiancée. If they are boyfriend/girlfriend, then your friends come first. You have known your friends longer and they may see something that you are "love stupid" to.

@K-I-S-S date as in going out for coffee a few times to see how they are as a person sure
But dating as in sleeping together, living together etc nah - +1 y
@K-I-S-S Statistically speaking the more a woman has sexual partners the more likely she is to divorce... majority of my family hasn't had sex or cohabitation before marriage and they're happily married for decades! Meanwhile most of my friends date for years and year, have sex, live together and still end up breaking up with their boyfriends!
I don't think there is a rule when it comes to this, you aren't more likely to have a successful marriage by sleeping with/living with your love interest before marriage in my opinion!

If your partner is just a fair weather toy, choose your friends.
If your partner is likely to form a significant part of your future, they are the most important person on earth.10 Reply

Girlfriend can put girlfriend first at times when she is in severe need of bail out and so can a guy. A guy can use a guy friend.
