Am I the ass or in the wrong?

My girlfriend of 4 years recently asked for a break for a couple of months because of some longstanding issues…

We still see each other weekly for a social event we both partake. Yesterday was my birthday which coincided with our social event she talked to me to let me know she wouldn’t be there next week because she was out of town, but she never acknowledged or said happy birthday to me.

I understand there’s some hurt and some pain with everything but me personally I still would’ve wished the person a happy birthday instead I got a text in the middle of the night that said “happy birthday” Felt like a meaningless thing to say especially when you saw the person the day of the birthday. I called her out on it because it felt right and I feel like I deserved better.

Am I wrong?

That's pretty low. You were right (in my opinion) to be annoyed. If it's to the point that she won't even wish you a proper happy birthday, I don't think it's worth waiting for her to come back at all.
