I wouldn’t categorize it as wise or foolish. Instead, I’d say it’s risky. But, just because something is risky doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be done.


I read some statistics that said rates of cheating for close distance relationships and long distances is the same. To me, that implies that it’s not the distance that determines somebody’s loyalty, but the individual themselves—are they the type to cheat or remain loyal? The loyal ones will be loyal, LDR or not. The disloyal ones will be disloyal, LDR or not.


So, you’d need to establish a lot of mutual trust and assess their character, all from long distance. That’s more challenging to do long distance. Also, if they were to cheat, it would be much easier to lie about things and cover their tracks if they were long distance.


Let’s say loyalty and cheating is no problem at all because they are 100% loyal. Great! Well, then there’s still all the usual challenges of an LDR you need to juggle and commit to. It’s harder to strengthen and sustain an LDR relationship, but if both of you are willing to put in the work, more power to you!


In conclusion, it’s not foolish, just risky. But, if you find a truly loyal girl and both of you are committed to overcoming all the challenges that come with an LDR, it can be very rewarding and worth all the effort.
