I had a recent ex and he didn't even appreciate the good things I did for him! It truly sucked. I thought I was a big part of what made him happy. I guess I was wrong? I mean, the way he just broke it off with me was very hurtful.

Asker, we talked about this. You still seem hung up on him. That man was abusive, you do not need such a type of person in your life. Before you start dating, you need to focus on healing yourself and figure out the kind of person you want to be, before you start searching for someone you want to share your life with. You mentioned that you got together with him because of his strawberry blonde hair and green eyes... looks can be deceiving. You cannot judge someone just by their looks. There is so much more to a person than just their appearance. He did not appreciate the real you, he used you and left. Learn a lesson from this and do not make the same mistake again. Never fall for someone's looks, fall for their personality. You should not let your emotions cloud your judgment.

You helped him in every way you could. You supported him financially and emotionally, and yet he made absolutely zero efforts to be better. You have to realize that you cannot change a person into someone you want. People are not clay that can be molded into something you like, and as an adult, it is very difficult to change one's quirks or bad habits or personality.

My advice for you is to not rush into dating. It is not fair to you or to the other person. The day you stop caring about him is the day you truly move on and that is when you should start dating. What do you like to do? Develop new hobbies, start playing a sport or an instrument, socialize with people, make some new friends, travel more. Just live your best life. You have to let go of your past to be happy.

Apparently not picky at all since I even ended up deeply falling in love with an abusive, homeless guy just because of his green eyes and strawberry blonde hair! He (especially in the begining) was nice but damn did things change for the worse in the years we were on and off!

I couldn't post any more updates for some reason but I wanted to add that:

I gave him my p** years ago. I GAVE him my love and affection. My time, my energy, my emotions and he just took them for granted or didn't appreciate and even became phsycially and verbally abusive. The hell with my luck.

Even gave him money and things.

Well he's homeless so it was very hard to reach him. He would be unreliable. I ask him to meet me at a certain time and sometimes, he forgets. He took drugs and alcohol and even got addicted. He used to be a lawyer but got disbarred for some stupid reason. He's 47 and acts immature still. I am 38. The only "real" way I could get a hold of him was through e-mail and I feel e-mail isn't really an intimate form of communicating. He even lost a couple shirts and a tablet that I bought for him. Would constantly get high... I think I was with him because I was attracted to green eyes and blonde hair and that is what he had unfortnately. Looks can be so deceving. He looked like he couldn't even hurt a fly but yet he's hurt me physically in the past. He's gone to jail for DV!

But I was thinking love was powerful and could conqure all. Love is amazing but I guess it's not love.
