My boyfriend always put his phone face down when we’re together. Is this a concern?

I noticed that every time we are together, my boyfriend puts his phone facedown. However, he does leaves his phone with me sometimes like when he’s going to the restroom. He also wears smartwatch that is connected to his phone so there are times that I see the notifications when we’re together or cuddling or sometimes let’s me know who is it. We also had the talk before that we can check each other phones if we want to. My friend said he still might be hiding something since the phone is facing down.

I always put my phone face down. The glare from lights is annoying. Plus putting it face down shows that I'm interested in the conversation going on and not going to be distracted by my screen lighting up.

I think it’s just instinct. If you guys are cool with checking each other’s phones just ask him if you can look at it sometime.
