If a relationship lasts only a few months, for instance four months is it even a relationship or would you call it a fling?

I would consider it as a relationship. 4 months is long enough to develop feelings for someone and if you get dumped it is long enough to feel heartbroken.

I can tell what it's NOT -- it's not a fling. You can call it well-intentioned relationship that didn't work out, but it's not a fling.

It's a relationship experiment that didn't pan out. In the beginning, the object is to learn all you can about each other. Sometimes that knowledge shows incompatibility. That doesn't mean you failed. It's all part of the exploration and discovery stage that is very important. You succeeded at discovering incompatibility. Now it's time to bring that knowledge forward, so you know what to look for in future opportunities.

they could call it anything they want but that's definitely not a relationship anymore.. more like two people living under the same roof, and sometimes... not even that
